First Time Keene Reader. Loved it!!

So how do you spell fun? Well today I'm spelling it as Brian Keene!!! Just finished reading Kill Whitey and all I can say is it was a fun ride of a novel. This was my first time reading anything by Mr.Keene and I'm upset with myself for ignoring him for so long. I may never have read anything by him, but the new editions of his work being put out by Deadite Press have both eye catching artwork for its covers and extremely affordable prices. Two things that can't be beat, though I had always been told not to judge a book by it's cover, you just can't help it with these books. Anyways the story is fun, original and well written. Keene has a smooth style that makes, me at least not put the book down till it was finished. It's pretty rare for me not to see where a story is heading but half way through when you discover the secret of Whitey is just something I never saw coming. In this regards it reminded me a lot of Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn, with a good mix of crime and horror. I think horror fans, gore fans, and fans of a fun book will get a kick out of this novel. So get to it, buy it and you won't regret it.

    Skip It!

Not really all that good. Like usual, Keene fails to execute what probably started as a good idea for a story. Easy and quick to read, as long as the odd turns of phrasing and illogical structure don't bother you too much. All this book really has going for it is a title that is eye catching, yet is another in a long list of things Keene has 'borrowed' from better, more creative writers.

Globe Package Service employee Larry Gibson is a loner who does not have much of a life. He works four hours a day at sixteen dollars an hour with health benefits before taxes. He has no close friends, but occasionally hangs out with co-workers Darryl, Jesse and Yul. They go to the Odessa, a popular strip joint owned by Whitey where Larry sees Sondra dancing and immediately lusts for her.--------- He goes back with and without his co-workers as often as he can afford to as she is always there. One night she fails to appear the owner sends people for her. Larry accompanied by Darryl finds Sondra hiding under his car. The trio goes to Larry¿s apartment where she explains that she is pregnant and the father Whitney wants her to abort the fetus. Jesse who stayed at Odessa is tortured into revealing where Larry lives. They kill Darryl and hit Larry, but he escapes with Sondra. Whitey survives due to being a descendent of Rasputin. No matter how many bullets Larry put in Whitey he refuses to die. Larry knows he must rescue Sondra, but is clueless how to do it.-------------- This supernatural thriller would make a fantastic horror movie as everything seems normal until a spin into Kreuger-Jason territory as there is a lot of violence that is appropriate to the fast-paced story line. Readers will pity Larry whose ¿significant other¿ is Webster the cat until he meets Sondra. Brian Keene provides a strong horror thriller that will please his fans.---------- Harriet Klausner
