Overview

An American general is captured in the Middle East by terrorists who threaten to behead him in days. Moments before rendered unconscious, he hears his captors speaking American English. Who are these people?

Gunnery Sgt. Kyle Swanson, a top Marine sniper, is vacationing on a yacht in the Mediterranean when he receives orders to mount a top-secret mission to rescue the general. But as Swanson and the Marines prepare to land in the Syrian desert, they unwittingly fly into an ambush. How did the enemy have details of a mission known only to a few high-level American officials?

Now Swanson—the sole survivor among his men—must journey into the dark heart of the desert to achieve his mission. But soon he will encounter the most dangerous enemies of all: His fellow Americans. Their sworn enemy: The captured general whose fate now rests in Sniper Swanson’s hands…

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Coughlin wrote with Davis on Shooter, a memoir of Coughlin's career as a Marine Corps sniper. In the team's debut novel, the two pit Gunnery Sgt. Kyle Swanson, the corps's best sniper, against a secret alliance of government and business bigwigs. A triumvirate of National Security Adviser Gerald Buchanan, Senate Armed Services Committee chair Ruth Reed and megarich businessman Gordon Gates IV are using Gates Global (the world's preeminent private security company) to implement a plan to take over the military, rewrite the Constitution and usher in the creation of a "New America." In Saudi Arabia, Marine Brig. Gen. Bradley Middleton is kidnapped by two mercenaries working for Gates Global. After Swanson is chosen to be part of a rescue team, helicopters carrying the rescuers crash on landing, and Swanson is left with only his exceptional combat skills and his high-tech rifle, Excalibur ("a sniper's wet dream"). The action reaches such a furious pitch that readers will hardly notice an overly romantic subplot or the clumsy machinations of the evil trio. (Nov.)

    Saving the General

Kill Zone written by Jack Coughlin is based on a expert sniper who gets sent on a mission to save Gen. Middlten who was taken prisoner by a ex Navy Seal and an ex U.S army ranger who are working as mercenaries. By reading this book you will follow kyle Swanson (the expert sniper) and Gen. Middlten to the extraction point in which they run into many Challenges along the way. What I liked about the book was their was plenty of action to keep me interested in the book. One thing I did no like though was it often switched from Swanson¿s story to someone who really didn¿t have much to do with the story which could make it confusing. This book is not part of a series but Jack Coughlin did also write Shooter so if you liked this book you would also like Shooter. This book sort of reminds me of the movie Shooter mainly because its about snipers. I hope you enjoy reading this book.

    Waste of time

If you want to read good Stephen Hunter read: The Master Sniper. This one was less exciting than watching paint dry.

    Awsome book!

This was a 3.99 book that i read on my wife`s kindle. I liked reading it so much i went out and bought the nook tablet. The book was a great read. Fast paced and lots of energy. I hated to put it down. Now i have to read the others. I was a W E Griffith fan, if you read any of the Presidential Agents books you will like these.

    Excitng Macho Read

Heard this author on the radio and ran out to get his book. It's not a pulitzer prize winner, but it's exciting from beginning to end. The main character is a marine sniper and he is a "Rambo". He does everything that you want a main character to do. He's smart, strong, vicious and nonforgiving! He kills the bad guys and helps the good guys. The plot is relevant to what is happening in the world today, even though it's fictional. My husband and I are reading it at the same time and have been fighting over it! I'm excited to read the 2nd book.

    Good & Bad

While I enjoy reading the novel, I must ask the author to stop landing and launching F16's from aircraft carriers. F16's are single engine Air Force fighters that do NOT have tailhook assemblies installed. The U.S. Navy uses the F18 in the similar role of the F16.

    A good read

After reading the first book (non-fiction) written by Jack Coughlin I was looking forward to reading more. This book was interesting and kept my attention throughout the entire read. I would like to see more by Mr. Coughlin. I will definitely buy anything he writes in the future.

I would like to see something written about the snipers rifle, training and set up of the weapons in a non-fiction since Mr. Coughlin is one of the surviving experts in this field.

    more from this reviewer

completely thrilling in every aspect imaginable!

this book is just what someone wants when they see the title alone. the title "Kill Zone" is very appropriate in this book, seeing as how one man can be behind enemy lines and defeat a horde of enemies single-handedly in order to rescue to a man in which he was to originally kill in the first place. the "Shark Team" is absolutely amazing in their operations and their ability to blind-side the reader. this book is a must read for all war buffs out there.

    I Also Recommend:

    quite enjoyable

This was the first book I read from these authors. Very entertaining throughout the entire book. I'm a big fan of snipers so I figured I'd give the book a try. Very glad I did. Can't wait for Dead Shot, the next Kyle Swanson book, to come out in paperback.

I'd also recommend the book Shooter by the same authors. It's about Jack Coughlin's tour in Iraq. He talks about his experience during the war and makes for some great reading. Check it out.

    Review of "Kill Zone".

This was the first book by this author. I read the back of the book and figured i would like it. I was not disappointed. Rogue govt officials, evil mercs and conspiracies. All 3 were in the book.

The book was fairly easy reading and i can not wait til his next book comes out in paperback.

    Good Read

Highly recommended. Liked almost everything about it but was a little disappointed in the ending. This is my first read of Coughlin so I'm not familliar with how the others typically end.
