Children's LiteratureThis is one of the titles in the "Keystone Books" series. The story, told in simple and rather stilted language, is about a father and his two children on a fishing trip. Mr. Brown works for the U. S. Navy on secret projects that he cannot discuss with anyone. For a change of scene, he takes his son Bob and daughter Hannah out into the ocean for a day of deep-sea fishing. Seeing dolphins swimming around the boat is very entertaining. But when sharks appear, everything changes. A stange clicking noise alerts Mr. Brown, and they quickly abandon the boat and paddle away in a life raft. After the boat explodes, evil Mr. Gall appears in a helicopter and almost succeeds in his awful plan. Black-and-white sketches accompany each of the six very brief chapters. A useful glossary is included. There are also instructions for using the internet to learn more about topics related to the book. Unless there is a real need for easy reading chapter books, this is not a book for a first puchase list. 2006 (orig. 2004), Stone Arch Books, Ages 7 to 9.
