Kin picks up where Sprite leaves off. Annabelle is faced with a shocking and heartbreaking revelation about the boy she loved, and the feelings she now has for the boy she is with. Annabelle is also coming to terms with the fact that she is the second Alpha, destined to try to fulfill an ancient prophecy. She and Adrian are in a race to find the clues that will lead to the discovery of Triton's lost shell, which is the key to bringing order and restoring balance. They face constant attack and threats from the Trackers, who are determined to stop them at any cost, and they endure trial after trial in their quest.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship with Adrian and Annabelle develop in Sprite, and even more so in Kin. Annabelle is turning out to be quite the heroine, and Adrian, the beautiful boy who saved her, grows into quite an admirable man. Though their attraction to each other was instantaneous, the relationship itself evolves over time. Just when she is coming to terms with the revelation about Blake, her old boyfriend, he does some things that cause Annabelle to question if his feelings for her were real or not. They are almost out of time, and Annabelle has to choose to save her sister or save a race she has come to know and love. Under constant attack and threat of capture, Adrian, Annabelle, and their friends race against time to save Triton and end the constant threat the Trackers pose, not only on the world under the sea, but also to humanity itself. We are introduced to several new characters in this book, and we get to know the characters from the first book better as well. The story continues with the creative and imaginative writing that Leigh Michael featured in Sprite, and ends up leaving you wondering what the future holds for these characters. This is a really fun series and I enjoyed it. Again, I feel it is something that is geared towards tweens and teens, especially those that love fantasy, mythology, folklore, and merman.
