Tall, dark, and mysterious his arrival turns the school, and Cassie’s life, upside down. Fighting against her fierce attraction to him, and the chaos he represents in her carefully ordered days, she is irresistibly drawn to him. I really like her books this book is across from Buffy the vampire slayer (the show not the movie) and twilight. She is very good at making you love all the people in the book. One of the better free reads but if you read this book be prepared to buy the next one her books just end there is no closer it just stops and continues in the next book. Like twilight it goes on and on about this and that me I don't need a whole page describing the color of the leaves . Over all this is a great book and I can't wait to start on the next book.

This is the story of Cassie, a vampire hunter and Devon, a very old, powerful vampire who is drawn to Cassie. Devon is able to mask his true nature from Cassie and her friends while enrolling in her high school to be close to her. Cassie is just as drawn to Devon but reluctant to give into her feelings for fear that she'll put him in danger. Eventually she does return his interest and they become inseperable. While she is watching out for his safety from a vampire who is in town killing people, he is watching for her safety. Cassie eventually figures out that Devon is a vamp and wrongly assumes he is the one draining locals. It all comes to a conclusion when Cassie decides to kill Devon but stumbles into a battle between vamps with some very scary results. This book was definately "Twilight" and "Buffy" inspired. I felt like this was not as good as the author's other works. I haven't decided if I'm going to continue reading this series. I'd probably go with 2.5 stars if that had been an option.

Light fun read... nothing new in this story line. Kind of a cross between Twilght and Buffy but worth the time, especially because it was a free nook book!

WORTH READING! Vampires, Vampire Hunters, and forbidden love. This was the best one of Steven's I've read so far. You know you're into a book real good when you're frustrated because it ends and you desperately have to get the next one in the series to find out what happens. Cannot wait to read the next one. One bad note: the wrong version ofthe word TO was used several times...should have used 'too' instead of 'to.'

Cassie and chris have been together since birth and when they were one they were wisked away to safety by chris' mom mary to cassies grandmother in florida. That night the rest of the family was lost. When they were 13 they were found by guardian luther and adopted daughter melissa and told that they were hunters. Not any hunter, vampire hunters. In their senior year in high school a misterious boy comes to town that everyone is drawn to even cassie. She is determined to protect him from her life she finds out though its her that needs the protection from the evil that is playing with the three hunter.

It was actually good! I really enjoyed the read even though it seems to be geared more towards younger readers. My only issue with the book is some of the repetitive paragraphs on feelings/emotions but I do understand that it helps the reader to better understand the character. I've heard complaints when there isn't enough to describe a characters emotions so for this particular book I can't complain too much about the constant descriptions. It was good enough to grab my attention for me to purchase the remainder of the series. I also enjoyed the Captured Series and am looking forward to more from that. I would recommend this series as a read as well as her other series.

The book was ok, it was very slow in places. This book is more for teenagers. Cassie a vampire hunter meets Devin a vampire. Neither of them know what the other is, but they are attracted to each other. ****spoiler I thought Devon was 100ish yrs, but later on he is 700ish yrs. Cassie was very whiney at times, and became annoying. For a tough vampire hunter, she doesn't seem to stand up for herself. Not sure why Devon didn't kill Julian, he knows Julian is gonna come back, seemed silly. It seemed like it was gonna be really good and then just got boring. The ending is a cliffhanger! Grandma does have good taste in music though! GL to Ms Stevens!

I pretty much gave up reading vampire stories figuring I'd seen every plot that could be found in them. Not so. Stevens has changed everything I thought I knew about this aspect of paranormal books. I stumbled across this book two days ago through one of the websites I use to find books to read. Much of my reading lately has fallen into the YA category, and so did this one. The story opens with two of our three main characters (Cassie and Chris) being spirited away right before their families are massacred in a plot by the elder vampires to eliminate all Hunters and their families. In the ensuing rampage, Cassie loses both parents and Chris loses his father. The kids spend the next several years living with her grandmother and moving around to prevent the elders from learning they are still alive. The next pivotal event in their lives happens when Luther and his daughter, Melissa, move to town. The three teens begin their training as vampire hunters under their Guardian, Luther. Stevens excels at portraying three teens living a secret life.  Cassie is obviously just going through the motions with no apparent interest in life itself. She takes care of her schoolwork the same way she goes about killing vampires. It's just a job. She's stuck with it. There is no out-clause for her aside from the anticipated early death that is typical for Hunters. Things pick up when Devon is introduced to the story. All of a sudden, Cassie has an interest in something. They are  both keeping secrets that if revealed, could bring danger to the other.  Stevens storytelling sets the bar incredibly high for the rest of her books and I wasn't disappointed. Her prose is heartfelt and punches deep to your very core. In part, I was reminded of what it felt like the first time I was attracted to a boy. Devon filled Cassie's dreams much like that boy did mine. She conveyed the angst and tentativeness of a new relationship so well, it was like reliving my first one.  This book grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go even when I reached the end. So much so that as soon as I got off work and could get to a wi-fi connection, I scooped up the rest of the books in the series. Yeah, I had it that bad. As soon as I got home, I dug into the second book, grateful I wasn't at work where I would have the distractions of customers.  The editing, character development, tension, angst, absolutely everything was spot on. To date, I've only ever considered one author's writing to be of bardic quality. I am beyond ecstatic to add Erica Stevens name to that very brief list. If you enjoy vampire stories, you HAVE to pick up this book, and indeed, the entire series. If I ever get around to picking up the print books for home reading, they will have a place in the box of favorite authors for those rare occasions when I move. This book was not gifted for review. 4 stars

Oh yeah "Buffy the Vampire Hunter" or was that just me.The similarities between this and the show was obvious, or was the show based off this book? Icant say i really enjoyed this book but i know i wont be buying the series. Also change the rating to 8 to 16. I was so disappointed. This makes me hesitate to read the other books written by this author, but hey the first ones are free thank the literary gods for that or i would want my money back. This from"JUST A LOVE FOR BOOKS.

Although this story started off slow for me, once it kicked in, I was hooked. The first half of the story was too much in the main character's head. It was too much of her dreary thoughts about her life and being afraid of the guy she is so attracted to. Eventually, though, the story moves on, and I didn't want to put it down. Be warned that it ends with a cliffhanger, but all five books of the series are out now. I'm in my way to purchase the rest of the series now.
