Exceptional novel of Chinese American family

This is an outstanding novel and a compelling read from start to finish. Here is proof that Pearl Buck's writing was worthy of both the Nobel and Pulitzer prizes. She was an active humanitarian and worked for the rights of women, children, and minorities, and this breadth of mind is reflected in her work. Pearl Buck's dual cultural status - she was a bilingual American raised in China - gave her incredible insight into the Chinese spirit. _Kinfolk_ is a novel you will not wish to finish. Highly recommended.

A novel for those living between tradition and the modern day world.

Kinfolk is a story about a family with members differing in every way. Each member of the Liang family has their separate destiny written in their innate characterists. The reconciling of this fate with the pressures of tradition, the modern world, the past, and family values is something we can all identify with. Kinfolk not only opens our eyes to another culture, but helps us to understand our brothers and sisters, parents and neighbors better as well. Centered on the belief that each has his/her own path in life, talents, and needs-Kinfolk makes us realize the importance of each individual in the fabric of a people.
