Overview

RP Books is proud to introduce our ULTIMATE edition--a premium trade paperback for the discerning reader. Featuring an exclusive Art of Ruin Mist insert with illustrations from original paintings, and many extraordinary extras, this powerful fantasy novel will delight even the most demanding fantasy enthusiast! ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Robert Stanek is the award-winning, international best-selling author of more than 65 books for young people and adults. He lives with his wife and children in the Pacific Northwest in the United States, and is intensely fascinated with our natural world. He loves the outdoors and frequently takes his family on short trips to see the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest, including Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, the Columbia River Gorge, and Puget Sound. ABOUT THE BOOK: Here is the second volume in Robert Stanek's magnificent Ruin Mist Chronicles. Filled with mystery, intrigue, adventure, and magic the books transport us to a world unlike any other. Praised as an instant classic, Robert Stanek's outstanding series has quickly become a favorite. Two dozen elves set out from Leklorall, the capital of East Reach. After an ambush at sea only a handful survived, of those only two reached the far shores of the great sea. Their names were Seth and Galan and they sided with Great Kingdom during the Battle of Quashan', helping to defend the valley city with skills and speeds no living man had ever seen before. But success on the battlefield could not undo the past. Elves and men are mortal enemies, as it has been since the Great War when the elves of Under-Earth sought to enslave all the peoples of Ruin Mist. Now even as Seth attempts to sway Great Kingdom's leaders to stop the coming darkness, there are few who will truly listen--and even fewer who can look beyond the treachery of days past.

    Just Read It Already!

The story of Ruin Mist gets better and better. I loved reading this, especially all the plot twists and the mystery. Adrina and Vilmos continue to be my favorites but I'm also liking Emel, Xith and Seth more and more. I recomend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and adventure. A fantastic read.

    A great book

The story revolves around 3 main characters. Vilmos and Adrina and Seth. The world inside this book is complex, but fairly easy to comprehend. Stanek creates his own magical universe here, a very well thought out one. I'm looking forward to the next 2 parts in this series if they're anywhere near as good as this one, I'm going to be a fan forever.

    Enjoy the Journey

I thought this was an excellent read. I found myself with a new appreciation for fantasy and what authors like Stanek can do with it. The story gets deeper than the first book, and I loved that. I loved the way the characters come to life, as they did in the previous, and I loved how it all comes together.

    Best up to this one

This was another great read. I really like the character of Vilmos, and Adrina is a great character. Wolmerrelle kick, too. Better magic scenes also.

A new exciting voice in fantasy!

Stanek's debut 'Keeper Martin's Tale' was one of the finest fantasies to appear in recent years. 'Kingdom Alliance', Stanek's third in the series (and the second chapter in the 'Ruin Mist Chronicles' series) lives up to the promise of its predecessor. Stanek's greatest achievements here in 'Kingdom Alliance' is his viewpoint characters. While 'Keeper Martin's Tale' was told maily through the eyes of Adrina, Seth, Xith and Vilmos, 'Kingdom Alliance' adds the viewpoints of Emel, Myrial, Midori and Galan. These characters are vividly portrayed and range from simple people trying to survive to kings and queens. Unlike most fantasy there are no super heroes, pure goodie goodies or pure bad baddies. The characters are very real with real desires, emotions and problems. The book has many parts that blow you away. When Robert Stanek writes well, he writes superbly, drawing you into his story of the shattering of the kingdom alliance and all that means for a world that has known peace for generations. Many scenes are written so brilliantly you can actually picture them in your mind down to the finest detail and you feel everything the characters feel. Scenes like Myrial facing down Bever, Midori (Delinna) betraying Adrina, Adrina confronting the Dragon King, Edward and Vilmos playing King's Mate, the Trios, Adrina's kidnapping, Valam assassination you are completely engulfed in the stunning brilliance. 'Kingdom Alliance' is not without flaws. Its not gritty or bloody like Martin/Erikson. Characters don't die senselessly after making stupid decisions (Martin), but characters do die so you best be prepared to lose some of your favorites. While the details as good, it doesn't have the intricate details of some epics--thus the reason the book is 350 pages instead of 800. However, after reading several 800 and 1000 page books back to back reading 'Kingdom Alliance' is like a breath of fresh air. The details are just enough so you can see it all, not so much you get bogged down in them. Despite a few flaws, 'Kingdom Alliance' is an excellent read. It ranks up there with the best. It is extremely different from most other fantasy. It has realistic writing and engaging characters. With this book, Stanek has shown himself to be an important new voice in fantasy and he has surpassed many other authors whose books are time-fillers between the next book from a favorite author. After this one, I don't see how Stanek wouldn't be a favorite author of any true fantasy fan. I can't wait for Stanek's next book, Fields Of Honor. This is an excellent series.

    Stanek does it again!

In this third installment of what has turned out to be a truly great fantasy work, Stanek continues the captivating tale of Elves and Men and the Kingdoms they live in. The alliance is shattered. The Battle of Quashan' was only the beginning. Now the kingdom folk must pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives. This was easily the best book of this series. He continues to paint a vivid picture of an ailing kingdom and we begin to realize that something far more sinister is afoot than war. A great darkness is coming, the 'eluded' at fourth wind and the one called Sathar who surived the dark journey and much more. It seems to me almost like the earlier strugles and battles were only preludes. Perhaps a window into a world that is about to shatter into a million pieces, even if the peoples of Ruin Mist don't realize it yet. Stanek's characters are believable. Each one is complicated and different from the others. They all have different feelings, and ambitions, and make different choices. There are many main characters, but there doesn't seem to be or need to be a single main charactre. The story is bigger than any one character. I will be honest in saying it was hard to believe in the beginning that something less than 500 pages could be as fascinating especially after being a person who looked for the next thick thick book because thick seemd to mean great. But quantity never meant quality and if I am honest with myself I've often been one to skip ahead in the thick books to get to the action. Not so in Stanek's books. The pacing is fastd and something is always happening in every chapter. Stanek exceeded all my expectations in creating his saga. There are unexpected plot twists to make you surprised. There is intense narrative to make you hold your breath. Suspense builds and builds. Strange things happen. Wonderous events unfold. Vivid scenery comes to life. I found my mouth agape often. The book offers some great action and battle scenes, and if these were ever filmed it would surely rival those of the Lord of the Rings especially scenes like those when Vilmos mets Edward and they play King's Mate, when Vilmos and Xith enter the Mouth of the World, when Adrina gets swept away into the dark land, when Vilmos meets the king, when Adrina captures the dragon, when Valam and Seth sparred in the trios and on and on. It is indeed an awesome book and if you haven't read the series, you are missing out on the best fantasy series in a long time. I have rarely read a series so addictive, so incredible and so unpredictable. I have no doubt Stanek has created a worthy modern fantasy. This is not you average fantasy. It is way above average. I'm dying for the next books, 'Fields of Honor' and 'Mark of the Dragon' both of which may be out next year. I doubt they'll both come out but one can hope.

your must read fantasy list is about to grow

I have never read anything by Robert Stanek before, yet I found myself with this book in my hand at the bookstore after reading several reviews. For a change, the reviewers were right on, Kingdom Alliance is a high powered, fast, fun fantasy novel. Robert Stanek is one of those rare writers that can create multifaceted characters that we love, hate and adore. I found myself deep into the story by the third chapter. More good news, it's the pivotal book in a quintet, so you will have plenty of time to truly relate to, love, hate and despair for the many characters. The plot has many twists and turns to keep you turning the pages for many hours. But don't look for easy resolutions with all the plots nicely tied up, like in life, not everything ever wraps up neatly in time for the end of the book. It is a great new book for any collection.

Best fantasy book in a long while

Honestly, I couldn't put this book down. I've been a fan of the George Martin's series for a while now, and needed something to tide me over. A friend of mine told me to buy this book by Robert Stanek, and I absolutely loved it. The action flows non-stop throughout this book. My heart was pounding almost the whole time. I actually cried in some parts! Amazing! Go buy it. You'll be so happy you did!
