Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - BookSmack!
Share my dual guilty pleasures-now with added embarrassment! The latter is a visual KISSfest true to its fanzine namesake, full of clunky photos, off-center moments, and fan pix. So while a shot of Gene Simmons breathing fire might be spot-on, Ace Frehley is yawning in the background. It chronicles a fanzine per page, so we learn that Mainline was a U.S. bimonthly from 1984–86 and Flash "only lasted a few issues," from 1977–78. I have to editorialize on the latter, however. With those rudimentary graphics and typographical errors, what did the publisher think would happen? One must go mano a mano with TIME and Newsweek on publication day, young man, and all the fake blood and face paint in the world won't beat journalism and an advertising staff. The coffee-table book of Police photos chronicles the band's egomaniacal leader and those two other guys in fun images and lite text. Check the shots of these British boys with bad haircuts and worse clothes (pink Chuck Taylor high-tops? Really?) pirouetting onstage balanced with more intimate ones of Andy Summers, eyes closed, grooving on his Fender or Sting concentrating as he twiddles a dial. ." Meet the Author

Gene Simmons

Gene Simmons was born a very poor Chaim Witz in Israel in 1949, and immigrated with his divorced mother to Brooklyn in 1958. Thrilled by comic books, The Ed Sullivan Show, and rock and roll, Simmons ultimately decided that people crave great rock and roll music and a great theatrical show. People crave excitement and escape from their everyday lives. This inspiration led Simmons to create the most enduring sound in rock music history.
