Wilhelmina Bellingham is an ardent Tory and has two goals in her young life—catching the rebel traitor General Francis Marion and avoiding marriage to the fool to whom she was promised when she was only a babe, a man she has never met. Her first goal is within reach, for Willa knows South Carolina’s swamps as well as any rebel, shedding her betrothed, however, is another matter. When his half-brother is killed, Captain Brendan Ford, a spy with Marion's patriots, assumes his identity as Lord Montford—and fiancé to Wilhelmina Bellingham. As his deception begins to fall apart, he convinces Willa he is a double spy, and makes a fatal decision—to romance her, capture her loyalty, and prevent her from exposing him to her father. But while he is ensuring Willa’s allegiance and love, she manages to steal his heart as well.

    A good love story

Nook freebies are a mixed bag. Some are good, some are okay, LOTS are terrible. Kiss of a Traitor was so unexpectedly good. I am still amazed that it was free.
The romance and hijinx between the two main character are poignant and hilarious, respectively.
If you are a romance novel connoisseur you will likely enjoy it.
Note: there are definitely some issues about race that may offend some/all readers. As a black woman I was able to put them aside because it would have been unrealistic and inauthentic for the author to have left them out in accordance with the time period in which the story is set.

This is a terrific Revolutionary War romance

In South Carolina, zealous Tory Wilhelmina Bellingham opposes the War of Independence siding with the British against the colonists. Believing she must act and knows the swamps as well as any person or fox, Willa decides to capture General Francis Marion. She also wants her marriage to Lord Aidan Sinclair, whom she has never met annulled. Willa assumes the former will prove easier to achieve.

When Sinclair dies in battle, rebel Captain Brendan Ford takes on his late half brother¿s identity so that he can spy on the British. This also means he must court his sibling¿s widow, but finds her to be quite a handful in spite of her being tinier than a wren. As he seduces Willa to win her to his cause Brendan is stunned with the change in his feelings towards the true blood Tory. Whereas he could not wait to end the masquerade and escape her, he finds he is in love, but fears she reciprocates his feelings except hers is for a dead man.

This is a terrific Revolutionary War romance that emphasizes a large segment of the colonists opposed the revolt supporting England instead. Thus, the divisiveness of the war serves as a wonderful backdrop to a fully developed lead couple who brings real meaning to the phase beloved enemy as their objectives clash. Although there is a cul de sac sidebar that feels like excess padding that never fits inside the story line, KISS OF A TRAITOR is a fabulous look at American Revolution through the loving eyes of two adversaries.

Harriet Klausner

    Interesting...but kj

Very good book but always disappointed when an author feels they must be overly explicit in the love scenes to sell a book. Passion and desire can be conveyed without the smut (which is why I dinged my rating). That being said, there was a lot to like including the fact that the editing was pretty good ..one of the biggest issues with ebooks.

    Enjoyed

Decent read with some semi-factual intrigue. Nice but unsurprising ending.

    I Also Recommend:

    Wow!

I think this is the best book I have read so far this year (not that the year has been very long) and will remain so. The book is a heafty read at about 530 pages but well worth the 6.95. Lindler remains true to the facts of the American Revolution and includes portions not often heard about. The characters are "real" and circumstances are not always pleasant. Nonetheless, I throughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for Linder`s next work.

    Debut Novel a Must Read

Kiss of a Traitor, Cat Lindler's debut novel, reflects characteristics of a perfected craft. In addition to the determination and moxie that accompany her "ardent Tory" persona, Wilhelmina Bellingham is cunning enough to outwit two armies of men, whimsical enough to foil an arranged marriage to her foppish betrothed, yet feminine enough to attract the attention and desire of an adversary--one virile Patriot, Captain Brendan Ford.

Kiss of a Traitor's fiction and fact blend flawlessly. Weaving in just the right amount of historical truth, Cat Lindler stayed true to the story and made me forget I once disliked history. Her characters are skillfully honed and filled with life-sized personality.

Kiss of a Traitor is definitely worth ordering and Lindler is surely an author to watch as she'll, no doubt, quickly make a name for herself. Kiss of a Traitor is set in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War.

    Well worth reading...

Although I don't usually read historical romances I did read this one and it kept my attention all the way through the book. It was well written and I liked the attention to historical facts as well as the characters. I would certainly recommend the book to anyone who likes romances.
