More About This Book

Overview

Sixteen year-old Lexi Hunter is just an ordinary teenager wishing that her life could be as exciting as a reality tv show when her mom receives a phone call with the news that Lexi’s cousin, Austin, was killed. She and her mom return to Briar Creek, the town that they left ten years ago, never looking back.

During their stay, Lexi falls head-over-heels for Gabe, the dark and mysterious guy who lives across the street and goes to the same high school that Austin went to. Lexi’s Aunt Violet and Uncle Tommy insist on her staying away from him due to his violent behavior and instead urge her to pursue a relationship with Dan, Austin’s best friend.

In an effort to learn more about the cousin she barely knew, Lexi snoops through Austin’s belongings. Soon, she begins to uncover puzzling details that make her believe that Austin wasn’t really attacked by an animal the night he was killed – details that may already be putting her own life in danger.

Recommended for ages 13 and up due to mild language, sexual situations, and references to minors drinking.

This story felt like it had real potential at first, but then went nowhere. I should have been tipped off by the girl on the cover who looks like some dumb cheerleader. The main character was vapid and seemed to fall in love (lust) with every guy she saw, in fact that was all the story seemed to be about. There was this sense of real danger in the background, which at times should have been obvious to our lacking heroine. However, she seemed only to care about who she was going on a date with. By the end, I didn't really care to find out what happened next. Now I am reading A Demon Made me do it, by Penelope King - that is a MUCH better story.

So not what I was looking for :(...

So much of how the character acted didn't make sense which made it hard to really like her at times. It never really explained anything and the hero of the book? Oh there isnt one. The romance was just a pre teen dreamy eyes for every guy she meets. Going from kissing one guy to another but not even liking him. And when the word love was exchanged you were like how did they get to that point since they've barely had any interactions with each other. I wish i would have saved my money and my time. The biggest dissapontment was the ending as it never answered even a quarter of your questions and what might have helped make the book not a total let down didn't happen. What the author tried for in the cliffhanger wasnot the emotion i was left with. Instead of being shocked and wanting desperately to know what happens next so i go buy the next book i just felt let down and there isn't a way to redeem my wasted time so i am done with this series. My first review in hopes i save others time or at least warned them ahead of time. Also it was very short at 142 pages. I have to wonder how many of these reviews are true opinions instead of friends or free product for a review although everyone has different taste so the above is just mine.

    Not recomended

The sample was a little interesting and a little bit of the story was, too, but the writing was poor. Lexi, the main character, seemed shallow, gullible, and quick to fall in love/lust. The rest of the charecters were equally not so great. I do not recomend this book.

Excellent story! hooked on the first page!

Kiss of death by jayme and jody morse is by far one of the best books i have read in the last few months! i was hooked from the first page and can not wait for the second book to be released! I instantly fell in love with the charecters and find myself twisted in knots about whats going to happen next! Thank you to both jayme and jody morse for sharing their imaginative and creative story!

The worst book I ever read

This book was terrible. All those good reviews listed on this book must be the author's friends & family. I couldn't believe how bad this book was. Lexi fell in love with Gabe after what have maybe 3 interactions with him lol. What kind of Aunt & Uncle force you to go on a date so you can get off punishment. That sounds like they were pimping her out to me. Dan & Gabe fighting over Lexi & getting jealous of each other over her was so stupid being how they just met her. Smh please I beg you all DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!! I don't care if its only $0.99 its not worth that. I thought I was gonna get a good book for cheap but I was wrong. I'm not reading the rest of the books in this series.

    Good series

Thinks it jumps around too much and in the beginning of the book way too quickly as within three days lexi goes through three serious changes that to me are almost laughable that they happen as quickly as they do- but further into the book it does slow down and i would still recommend it as a good series- the books do get better further into the series as i have read the first four

It wasn't very impressive. Even though a first book in a series is sometimes really slow, this one had a snail's pace. Nothing happened for a lot of it, and what did happen was poorly written and unrealistic. The main character was inconsistent and everything she did or worried about was illogical. I wish the story had been told from her cousin Austin's point of view. His prologue was the best part of the story, aside from the cliffhanger ending.

The story has potential, but is not fully developed. It leaves more questions than answers. The plots were hard to follow, I was not able to get involved in this story.

    Different

    CONS

The story/plot was good but could have been better. The intent was there from the author to keep you in suspense but there was parts lacking that made it hard to follow. For example; Her mother dies and no where does it mention a funeral, there is no real mourning for her mother at all.

She meets 4 or 5 boys and instantly feels some sort of attraction to them. I was begining to loose track of them all as they were introduced into the story.

She had more lines/time with all the other characters in the book than with Gabe so their 'love' didn't feel like it had substance.

    PROs

The idea behind the plot is intirguing.
The 'clues' she uncovers as the story goes on are unique
The one redeeming quality about the main female is she cares enough to go digging around giving us readers a mystery as well as a romance.

What I would like to see is more emotions, details of characters and places, and slower pacing so things feel more natural.

    I do love the uniqueness

    Good story

3.5 stars. I love how it has the old take on vampires that turn into bats, which you don't read about anymore! This book however, was a little slow. But if you finish the series, the books get much better and more interesting!!

    =)

At parts I thought this book kinda lacked just because it was one of those books were you figured out before the main character even had a glue something was wrong... but it was still a good book and a good read... I'm not a fan of books that leave you hanging right at a good part and then you have to wait for the next one to come out but that's how every sequel is as well... just got into it and didn't want it to end by the end of the story and of course you have to keep reading the other books to know what happens! Good book to read. I enjoyed it!
