Two dead bodies have been discarded along the Sunset Strip, both aspiring actors, women of talent and ambition in a town renown for eating you up and spitting you out. Who really cares about these nobodies? Mums the word—with the Academy Awards just days off, the powers that be are determined to sweep the dead under the red carpet, at least until Oscar can take his gratuitous bow. There are, however, wrinkles in this finely crafted plan of deception, most notably the disappearance of yet another woman, a killer whose sniper rifle is trained on the fabled red carpet, and a throwback detective who doesn’t like to get pushed around.

    My New Hard-Boiled Hero

KISS OF THE DEVIL'S BREATH is the very first mystery to feature PI Frank Mango. This book jumps out of the starting gate like a thoroughbred at the Kentucky Derby. The first chapter setup may be one of the most exciting I've ever read (a sniper with his rifle aimed at the red carpet during the Oscar ceremony). The pace just builds from there. Mango is not one of these modern age wonder boy detectives. He's a throw-back who follows the clues and pounds the pavement relentlessly. There are several obstacles in Mango's path, and forces work to befuddle the determined gumshoe at every turn. The characters in this book are among the most unusual I've come across in a long time and I enjoyed them thoroughly. Mango's discovery of a will-manipulating drug also makes for very interesting reading. Lastly, Mango's sense of humor deserves honorable mention-his comments led to full-scale belly laughs. The story takes place in the current day but the author has gone to painstaking trouble to produce a hard-boiled mystery in the true tradition of the genre. It conjures up memories of Chandler and Hammett. Read the opening chapters in the preview--you'll be hooked.

    Nano sharp

This guy is as entertaining as a mime on LSD. Keen imagination. The plot gets all A's. I would love to sit at a bar next to his protaganist. Funny funny man. To date I have verily enjoyed every book by this author, I have inhaled so far.

    Do not recommend

A seedy tale is right. I read about 50 pages and quit. Got tired of the constant smut,
language, and degrading of women. Too bad, because I like series where you get to
know the main character and people around him.

    Language stinks

I did not feel like the language of that degree was needed.
