Overview

From highly acclaimed and bestelling author Margaret Evans Porter, first novel in The Islanders Series—a tale of two passionate, desperate risk-takers.

Lady Lavinia Cashin and her father, an impoverished earl, leave their crumbling castle on the Isle of Man. To ensure her family’s survival, Lavinia must swiftly find a wealthy husband in London. When her father is arrested for debt and lands in the King’s Bench Prison, necessity forces her to accept help from unexpected and possibly untrustworthy sources.

Shunned by society, the infamous and reckless gamester Lord Garrick Armitage is attracted to the mysterious Manx beauty from the moment he sees her. In London’s ballrooms, during a Christmas house party, on the hunting field, and at a Newmarket race meeting, he is ever more convinced that Lavinia is the girl for him—even if she doesn’t realize it. Despite lacking the fortune she requires in a suitor, he cannot stand aside and watch her make a marriage of convenience devoid of the love and passion they share.

Lavinia must take drastic measures to save her family—and risks losing Garrick forever. And neither can guess whether her desperate return to the Isle of Man will turn out to be a journey towards happiness or heartbreak.

Editorial Reviews

The Romance Reader - Jean Mason
I always figure that if a book keeps me up until 3:00 in the morning because I can't wait till the next day to find out what happens, then it's four hearts for sure. And Kissing A Stranger kept me up way past my bedtime!....But what I especially liked was the interesting and complex plot that Porter has created and her sure recreation of the world of the late 18th century.,,Kissing A Stranger kept me interested, kept me entertained and kept me up.
Bookbug on the Web - Jolene Ehret
Kissing a Stranger is a delightful story, an intriguing romance spiced with a bit of mystery and mayhem. The author's love for the rugged Isle of Man shines through in her vivid descriptions of the terrain...I enjoyed Kissing a Stranger and hope some of the secondary characters make return visits in future books.
Rendezvous - Anonymous Reviewer
The writer makes us sympathetic toward Lavinia, a young innocent girl, who encounters unscrupulous people, and Garrick, a man who faces rejection yet reaches out to help someone in need. This is a fast-moving story with twists and turns that will keep you enthralled.

It's good, but not the best, so to say.

"Kissing A Stranger" is a book good for a one time read, but that's pretty much it. It is a very cliche love story that does succeed in holding the reader's interest, but overall, not a book to keep permanently after the first read.
