Overview

The kitchen is the most important room in your home and this is the most important book on that topic. Comprehensive, insightful, and well-written, it is absolutely the most up-to-date and in-depth guide on the topic of kitchen design and remodeling. All relevant topics are covered thoroughly, from kitchen styles and layouts, to kitchen cabinets and countertops, to kitchen floors and backsplashes, to sinks and appliances, to furniture, racks, windows, and lighting, to kitchen islands and peninsulas, to the plumbing, electric, and air, and all things in between. In addition, extensive advice on finding and working with service providers, calculating average costs for different materials and designs, and identifying potential air quality impacts of common resins and finishes.

The level of inclusiveness and detail in this book is what sets it apart. Whether you would like to know the dozen sub-styles of traditional kitchen design, the benefits and drawbacks of individual species of wood for kitchen cabinets, the key layout considerations when there are children in the home, the proper width of aisles and counters, the advantages and disadvantages of painting versus staining versus varnishing, the cost differences between refinishing and replacing, or any one of a thousand potential kitchen remodeling and design questions, you will find all the answers in this excellent book. At the same time, the details are firmly set within the bigger picture of kitchen re-creating and re-imagining, so it is easy to understand how they relate to your overall home improvement goals.

John Donovan
This is, absolutely and unequivocally, the kitchen Bible! Stewart is a force and this book has all the markings of a classic. Regardless of how large or small your kitchen project, you will benefit from the great information presented in this book. Plain enough for the kitchen neophyte and comprehensive enough for the battle-hardened veteran of a dozen home improvement projects, it methodically marches through every key topic of kitchen remodeling - an important book and a great read.

If you want visuals, buy the real book.

Text of the book is pretty good. Nook version has no pictures, diagrams or visual content at all. None.

    excellent guide

I wanted to redecorate the kitchen and do it on a shoe-string budget. The problem was that I really didn't know much about my options and it seemed like all the contractors wanted to do was make me pay, pay, pay. Long story short, this book answered all my questions and then some. I was able to figure out exactly what I needed and how to get the look I wanted without breaking the bank. Whether you're looking for a full-on big-time remodel or just an update to your kitchen, I can't recommend this book enough.
