Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Children may find themselves enjoying the rhythm and rhyme of Kitty Cat's day of activities at school. With his backpack ready, Kitty Cat walks to school with his mother. While at school, he sings songs with his classmates. He browses through books and counts the chicks on the wall. Kitty Cat's favorite time in school is going outside where he is jumping rope. Watercolor and color pencil illustrations support the storyline; the art media provides a softened tone in the pictures which for the most part are easy to see in a class read aloud setting. The facial expressions on the cats show smiles of joy through the day. On the final page, children may infer from the picture that Kitty Cat's mother came to walk home with him. Children may like to search for a mouse in the layout that seems to follow the same school schedule as Kitty Cat. The book makes a pleasant introduction about activities in a school day that young children may encounter. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
