THIS BOOK OPENED MY EYES TO NEW AND UNFAMILIAR BEAUTY IN VISUAL ART.

I WAS JUST BROWSING THE ART BOOKS WHEN SIMPLE CURIOSITY MADE ME PICK UP THIS BOOK ON GUSTAV KLIMT. I TOOK THE BOOK TO BARNES AND NOBLE'S CAFE AND FLIPPED THE PAGES QUICKLY. THEN I FOUND MYSELF LINGERING ON PAGES OF HIS WORKS WHICH WERE PURE FASCINATION TO ME. I READ BRIEFLY ABOUT THE MAN, HIS TIMES, FRIENDS AND COUNTRY. KLIMT WAS FASCINATED WITH PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY WOMEN, NATURE, SOCIETY, AND RURAL LANDSCAPES IN HIS NATIVE AUSTRIA. LOOKING AT EXAMPLES OF THE ABOVE MADE ME MUCH MORE AWARE OF OTHER VISUAL ARTISTS THAT I PARTICULARLY ENJOY: MONET, VAN GOGH, MANET, LAUTREC, YES EVEN JACKSON POLLACK TO AN EXTEHT. (POLLACK'S USE OF COLOR IS SIMILAR TO KLIMT'S IN MANY WAYS, ALTHOUGH KLIMT'S SUBJECT MATTERS DIFFER GREATLY FROM POLLACK'S.) AT THE VERY LEAST, LOOK AT SOME OF KLIMT'S WORKS. NO GURARNTEES, BUT YOU MIGHT BECOME AS HOOKED ON HIS VARIOUS STYLES AS I AM. NEEDLESS TO SAY I PURCHASED THE BOOK AT BARNES AND NOBLE ALONG WITH A SMALL PORTFOLIO (BEAUTIFUL) OF SOME OF HIS WORKS.

FYI: THE NEUE GALLERY ON 86TH AND FIFTH IN MANHATTAN FEATURES SOME OF KLIMT'S WORK. I PLAN TO RETURN VERY SOON. I WISH THEY FEATURED A SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT. MAKE IT A POINT TO VISIT AND ASK FOR A SENIOR DISCOUNT. MAYBE SOME "SENIOR PRESSURE" WILL MAKE NEUE RECONSIDER!
