"Live the romance. Read Loretta Chase" -- Christina Dodd

The traditional English Regency from New York Times bestselling author, Loretta Chase, is back…

Lilith Davenant, has ample reason to detest Julian Wyndhurst, Marquess of Brandon: he's exactly the kind of man who hastened the demise of her profligate husband, and the debt he owed to Julian has forced her to an engagement with a wealthy suitor for the sake of supporting her beloved nieces and nephews. Besides that, Lord Julian somehow manages to ignite disturbing... feelings ... she's never felt before!

Lord Julian used his considerable skills and cunning in the war against Napoleon. Now he's obliged to use the same talents to save his young cousin from a disastrous marriage to a scheming mistress — who makes him a wager: If Julian can seduce the famously icy Lady Lilith Davenant, the lady will release his cousin from the engagement.

But very quickly, Julian discovers Lilith's hidden warmth, kindness and humor. Will he be able to prove his heart to her before she learns of his recklessly shameless wager?

Meet the Author

Loretta Chase has worked in academe, retail, and the visual arts, as well as on the streets—as a meter maid—and in video, as a scriptwriter. She might have developed an excitingly checkered career had her spouse not nagged her into writing fiction. Her bestselling historical romances, set in the Regency and Romantic eras of the early 19th century, have won a number of awards, including the Romance Writers of America’s Rita.

Library Journal has called her “…the long awaited successor to Georgette Heyer.” While that’s a bit much, Loretta Chase can report, without exaggeration, that her novels have been published all over the world.

I never got to read this book. It will not work on my nook. Took it into the store and they could not make it work. Someone was supposed to get back to me and never did!

    Angela Shikany

Excellent. The book is reminiscent of Georgette Heyers best. The hero is absolutely breathtaking. Copyright 1990. This is an out of print book now available as an ebook. All of Chase's fans will be grateful to have these previously difficult to find books.

    W Witty romance

Early book of hers that I really enjoyed. Great characters and witty dialogue. Old school of the best kind. Now one of my faves of hers.
