Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Part of the information that toddlers should acquire is knowledge of their body parts. The teddy bears in this tabbed board book do their part to demonstrate shoulders, head, knees and toes. At that point they urge kids to touch their toes. The following spread repeats it all again. Then kids get new information—eyes, ears, mouth, and nose but the pattern goes back to the original body parts in the final spread. It is a repeat of both the text and the pictures. The difference is a yellow insert with tips for using this "Rookie Toddler" book. One of the suggestions is to get kids moving and to have them touch the named body parts. They can even participate in a game with their caregiver by pointing to the correct body part in the book. The format reminds this reviewer of the earlier DK books with its crisp white pages, excellent images and a clear text in a large type font. This sturdy book and others in the series should hold up to plenty of toddler use and abuse. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
