Overview

This five-song EP (plus an Unbroken cover) clocks in at a little less than 18 minutes, and every second is fast and furious. The screaming vocals are more prevalent than on past works and, musically, the EP is on the edge of hardcore. The first track, "Scratching Rounds," goes right into the second track, "Leaning the Room," with a hard-yet-tender perfection. The tandem singing/screaming vocals are perfect and complement one another superbly. Given the poetically vague lyrics and music bordering on a schizophrenic temper tantrum, listeners should check their preconceptions at the door. While flirting with many styles, Planes Mistaken for Stars successfully equips itself as a punk band with an emo sound, while skirting the edges of hardcore.
