Kristin Vayden's Historical romance, Knight of the Highlander, takes place in the Scottish Highlands. Kristin sets the stage in the prologue with our hero, Colin. The Scottish Highlanders were particularly difficult for the English Crown, to whom Colin was loyal. The Jacobite cause was beginning to rise. And therefore the English wanted a man who could infiltrate the clan and seamlessly blend in. Colin had no qualms with the espionage or this double life he would play. He just never expected he would fall in love!
Kristin’s characters are dynamic and full of life. One of my favorite aspects of her writing is that she doesn’t write one-dimensional characters. As Colin puts himself in various situations (when he is cloaked as a Scots clan’s man or shown as his ‘true’ Englishman) you see him act differently and have doubts about himself and his situation. Arywnn, our heroine, the Chattan Laird's daughter, is shown as a dutiful, obedient daughter, a wild Highland lass, and a protective, brave woman. Her secondary characters are also very colorful and so we get a richly described scene where you can really picture everyone and how it all takes place.
Knight of the Highlander is a sweet romance with a bit of a bite to it! It has action, danger, chemistry, true love, family loyalties and is just a wonderful read! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, a strong heroine and a sexy man in a kilt!

Knight of the Highlander was a clean Scottish romance. Kristin has the ability to create stimulating tension between the characters while still keeping the book clean and enjoyable. I was pleased that the story continued even after Arwynn finds out about Knight and Colin.

This book was so awesome. It is a new different look at a love triangle. Arwynn (which is an awesome name by the way) just can't seem to figure out who she loves and where her loyalties lie. She will eventually learn, it was never a competition! With confusion of the heart, love, respect, challenging decisions, escapes, duals, and again; love, this story ends very well rounded. I love scottish historical romances, mainly for their big brawny men, with sexy Scottish brogues. This book has them both for sure!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
