CHAPTER 1

Parisian Flair Beanie

Stylish and feminine, you'll find drop stitches are a breeze when loom knitting while making this beanie.

Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.

Finished Measurements

Circumference: 14½ (16, 19¼, 24) inches

Height: 6¾ (9¾, 10½, 12¼) inches

Materials

• Patons Classic Wool Roving (chunky weight; 100% wool; 120 yds/100g per ball): 1 ball cherry #709

• Large-gauge Authentic Knitting Board Hat Loom (with extension kit for largest size)

• Knitting tool

Gauge

10 sts and 22 rnds = 4 inches/10cm in St st.

To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special Abbreviation

Knit 2 together (k2tog): A k2tog is a right-leaning dec that's worked over 2 pegs as follows: Move the loop from the peg on the right to the peg to its left. The loop from the right peg will be on top. Work across the row, being sure to lift the 2 loops up and over tog as they are knit.

Note: For this project, do not move the sts inward to eliminate empty pegs between sts after decreasing. Keeping the sts where they are will result in elongated sts.

Pattern Stitch

Crisscross (multiple of 4 sts)

Rnds 1 and 3: Knit.

Rnds 2 and 4: Purl.

Rnd 5: E-wrap each peg 4 times and lift the bottom loop up and over all 4 wraps. Each peg will be left with 4 wraps.

Rnd 6: Loosen and drop all 4 wraps and place the elongated loop on the peg. When all sts are dropped, cross the sts in sets of 4 as follows: *take the sts from the first 2 pegs on the right, and place them on pegs 3 and 4, then take the sts from pegs 3 and 4 and place them on pegs 1 and 2; rep from * around, then knit around.

Rep Rnds 2–6 for pat.

Pattern Note

Hat is worked in the round.

Hat

Ribbing

Using the purl cast-on method, cast on 36 (40, 48, 60) sts. Mark beg of rnd and join.

Work 8 (8, 10, 12) rnds in 2x2 rib.

Body

Work Rnds 1–6 of Crisscross pat, then rep [Rnds 2–6] 1 (2, 2, 3) time(s).

Work Rnds 1–4 of pat.

Crown

Knit 4 (4, 5, 5) rnds.

Next rnd: K2tog around — 18 (20, 24,30) sts.

Knit 1 rnd.

Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.

Using tapestry needle, thread tail through rem sts and pull tight.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Block hat.
