Scarves are a popular first project for beginners and are so easy to knit that surely another book about them is overkill. Or is it? Jensen (Hooked on Crochet) combines patterns for a wide variety of scarves with a wealth of knitting tips and ideas to assist readers in designing scarves. A range of alternative yarns is pictured for most scarves. Designer McCarthy includes even more knitting instruction, reflecting the complexity of sock knitting compared with scarf knitting.     Easy, complete, friendly!

    I really enjoy this book and have knit several sock patterns out of it! I especially like that so many of the patterns are written for more than one gauge. There are lots of little tips scattered throughout, too. And many of the socks are CUTE!

    disapointing

    Only three of the patterns are for single strands of sock or fingering weight yarn. The socks are too heavy for most people's comfort.
    I'm sorry I spent my Christmas gift card on this disapointment.

    Sooo sooo book

    I haven't knitted socks for a very long time and got this book as a refresher and it was the only sock book on the shelf. I knitted the basic stockinette sock in a size women's small to medium according to the directions and found the sock extremely large. This book also looked a little worn like it had been bought and returned several times. I plan on returning it too.
