Ilene Cooper
"Comprehensive" is the word to describe this compendium of knitting techniques. Even experienced knitters will learn things they never knew: various methods of holding the needles, counting stitches, and casting on (40 of those, in fact). That's what makes this book so special: not only is it written clearly enough for beginners to understand, but the infinite variations it offers prove that there is always something more to learn about the craft. Gauge charts and pattern instructions are supplied, and finishing touches, such as buttonholes, edging, and embroidery, are addressed effectively. The techniques are illustrated with two-color charts, and finished products and materials are displayed on 32 pages of colorplates. An excellent reference source.
