This kit is useless.  The book does not explain how to do even the simplest of stitches.  The needles are the wrong size for all of the projects in the book.

If I could leave no stars for this product I would. It is useless. Even on sale, DON'T BUY IT. I am a beginner knitter and haven't the slightest clue how to knit. I thought this kit would give some guidance on how to make stitches. The book is full of projects which would be nice to learn, if Mud Puddle INC had bothered to put instructions on how to do the stitches for these projects. Poor product. So disappointed.

I got the kit as a gift and was disappointed to see the book was useless. I used the yarn for crocheting but halfway throrugh one ball I discovered a knot. TWO YARNS were knotted together. HOW CHEAP IS THAT????

the yarn had NO label...the company should be ashamed of themselves.

The single five-star review is inaccurate. On the package of the product and in the overview on this page, it plainly states "Even if you've never knitted before, you'll find everything you need here to get started". This is completely misleading, even if the assumption is that the actual knitting items are what you need.

(It isn't, though. To make some of these things would require circular needles and such. Additionally there are no needles for knitting to join two ends of a piece of work.)

At any rate, I had to look up everything in order to actually learn how to cast on, make stitches, and bind off. The most helpful part of the book is the glossary. You are better off simply buying needles and yarn and looking up tutorials online.

This kit is exactly what I was expecting and exactly what I want

This kit is exactly what I was expecting and exactly what I wanted from it, so I'm giving it 5 stars. This isn't a "how to" kit, and it doesn't claim to be. The patterns are very nice and with the yarn, needles, and cable needle it is a good value. The cable needle works perfectly, and though I haven't used the needles yet they appear to be very good quality, and cute to top it off. It has patterns from beginner to median. One main problem is that you can't use the needles and yarn for all of the projects, but that is not why I personally bought this kit.

I suggest youtube for people who have never knit before, I had a "how to" knitting book when I was starting out and it was difficult for me to learn from. Youtube has been the best instruction manual for me personally.

Some here say this kit is useless, but it is far from useless. For those of you who are upset that you will have to buy more tools... well... sorry to break it to you, but knitting as a hobby requires many more tools than are included in this book and unless you want to limit yourself to Red Heart Supersaver yarn and projects that fit the only type of needle you have, it is going to be expensive. The how-to kit I bought previously also only had one set of needles that didn't match all the projects-so it really isn't as strange as everyone seems to think.

Also, one person commented that the yarn was knotted together in one ball, I've seen this happen in nice yarn before, so it really isn't that big of a deal. Many projects require more than one ball anyway, so there are methods of hiding transitions between two yarns. Sorry for any run on sentences or typos... B&Ns review box is terrible to type in.

Agreed! The kit is useless, the yarn is pretty and the projects are nice but there are no directions for the beginner. I will probably have to invest in other tools since the
needles in the kit don't fit the projects. It's a complete waste of money. Fortunately, I bought another knitting kit that had instructions and with the help of You Tube videos...I plan on learning
    how to knit.

I agree, the kit is totally useless. There are no instructions on how to do the projects.
The projects look super nice, I only wish the makers would have thought on putting instructions. It was a gift for my daughter who was very eager to learn but now she is very disappointed.Besides the problem with the instructions, we found out that the needles were not right for any project. I don't understand how B&N can sell this type of product.
