Raveling or unraveling, knitters such as Lily Chin, Betty Christiansen, Teva Durham, Clara Parkes, Caroline Herzog, and Lela Nargi take us into their confidence, sharing with us the whimsy, the insights, and simple pleasure that the age-old craft of knitting has brought into their lives--and now ours. Each story in this wonderful collection focuses on one of the best parts of the knitting tradition - making a gift for someone special, or receiving a gift, or cherishing a gift that has been handed down through the generations.

Meet the Author

Lela Nargi is a knitter, author, former journalist, and recent transplant from New York City to rural Vermont. Her book Knitting Lessons: Tales from the Knitting Path, published by Tarcher/Penguin in 2003, documented her adventures in learning to knit, and also featured dozens of interviews with knitters around the country, as a means to understanding what it is about the practice of knitting that draws people in and keeps them returning-sometimes obsessively-to their yarn. Lela's recent essay about knitting, "Knitting Is Work and the Widows of Sant'Arsenio" is included in Knitting Yarns and Spinning Tales, published by Voyageur Press in 2005.
