Knock Em Dead 2011: The Ulimate Search Guide by Martin Yate is a great resource for anyone looking for a job! I am a not a big fan of interviews and this book is perfect for me and others like me to give them the confidence and expectations of the dreaded job interview. With great tips for the "productive resume" the book gives you enough knowledge to understand what employers are searching for in a resume; the first step to getting your foot in the door.

The author tells you about Networking and with everything else I have read this is a key to finding a great job! It's what you know, and it's who you know.

You will also find other great information such as dress codes for the interview, great answers to those hard to answer questions, negotiations, different types of interviews, fast growing occupations and more!

My honest opinion is that this book will definitely help you with knocking them dead and getting the job!

Knock 'em Dead - The Ultimate Job Search Guide 2011 by Martin Yate, CPC.

No doubt about it, Knock 'em Dead lives up to its title. The book provides all the ammunition you need to wow potential bosses or future companies that might hire you.

The job marketplace is scary and competitive-especially during this economic rut. Over-qualified people queue up for menial jobs below their educational level-and they're still not hired. So, how does one stand out as being the very best potential employee? Knock 'em Dead tells us how.

The book covers every angle of job hunt prep one can imagine - everything from resumé writing, dress-code, interview techniques, personal branding, first impressions, how to find jobs, how to land interviews, how to query, how to impress, legal issues . . . Phew! Exhaustingly exhaustive!

There are some areas I might modify (in practice at least)- areas which hint at avoiding full disclosure to land the gig. But aside from that discrepancy, the book is a great tool for job-hunters, career changers or for people wanting to improve their overall people skills and professionalism.

Two of the most valuable sections are the sections on resume preparation and answering the interview questions. Knock 'em Dead covers all the questions that are typically asked in any kind of job interview, and provides the correct answer that tells the employer what he wants to hear.

The resume preparation section provides great insight for those seeking career advancement, by walking the reader through the following steps:

When I was a college student, I read What Color Is Your Parachute, a classic in job hunting advice.

Knock 'em Dead is a worthy successor!

Because of the many internet resources available, I recommend purchasing the eBook format of this book.

Mr. Yate is a consummate professional and writes with great authority. No matter your job search needs, this book is written with you in mind.

The only area in which I differ with the author is his high regard for another book, Alan Lakein's classic How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life. If you benefit from to-do lists, then use Mr. Yate's and Mr. Lakein's time management principles. Otherwise, I recommend using Stephen Covey's timeless 7 Habits of Highly Successful People instead.

Don't take my word for it, though. If you're interested, check out the web site before you buy this book. You'll find that the book, in conjunction with the free resources online, are worth every penny!

This book receives my highest recommendation, and good luck in your job search!

Useful Job-Hunting Advice

Though I have been employed in the same profession for over fifteen years, I am nearing the completion of my college degree and hoping to move into a new field. Since I last applied for a job (before the internet had such a presence in daily life--and job searching), a lot has changed. Understandably, I have a bit of apprehension about the entire process.

I found many things informative and useful in this book:

* updating my resume
* job search technique
* phone interviews
* in-person interview techniques, including the psychological tests that every employer seems to be using
* negotiating the job offer (which I've yet to put into practice, but here's hoping!)

The book is so easy to read and doesn't seem to be talking down to the reader. I can see why this book has been so successful (evidently published for the past 25 years) and have a better understanding of how to succeed in my ongoing career plans.

I can see this book being useful to employees (or hopefuls) at any age or career stage. I would heartily recommend it to anyone who has not applied for a job in the past couple of years (or anyone who has applied unsuccessfully).

Knock 'Em Dead 2011

Wow! This book has come as a god send. I was interested in this book being that I've found myself at a time of career change in my life and from reading reviews of past editions I felt this book may be of great use and value. And I haven't been disappointed.

I have learned so much from this book, things which I feel will be of great help and strength to me in searching out my new career and job opportunities.
I've always dreaded having to put together my resume, but I'm starting to see it from new and different angles, and feel empowered for writing resumes that will be more successful overall.

It's helping me to become a bit more familiar with what job interviewers are looking for. I not only feel better prepared to face this, but also to ask myself what my personal work ethics are and I have developed the qualities that are not only what others are looking for, but are qualities which will help me get ahead overall in all areas of my life.

All in all, I feel this book is a great help and aid to anyone finding themselves looking for a job in today's job market or considering a career change and needing some additional help and information in their decision making.

Knock 'em Dead 2011

Finding myself nearing my last years of high school and entering the job market as I continue my studies, I can say that this has been a time of relative anxiety and trepidation as to what I will find and how this will work out for me especially in today's reality of the economy, job market and opportunities.

I love the way "Knock 'Em Dead" takes you through many of the different angles I will be facing, giving me the help and tools I will need. And not only that, but giving good advice and helpful links on areas I need to work on starting from branding myself and going on to transferred skills, learned behavior and core values that are important. I have greatly benefited from the information and web links included and know that this book is one that I will be using and referring to at each step of my journey.

I like how this book is updated for today's realities and a new edition seems to be put out each year. I found a few of the web links are no longer available, but I can imagine that is understandable and to be expected when you are referring to other web sites which may be changed and updated as well so it's not always easy to know ahead of time.

I'm working on the different steps and areas that are pointed out and look forward to seeing how they will help me in my job search!

I recently got the chance to review "Knock 'em Dead 2011: The Ultimate Job Search Guide" by Martin Yate through the amazing website Booksneeze which offers bloggers the chance to receive free copies of certain books in return for an honest reviews on their blog.

I thought selecting this book would be a win-win situation, and I was right. It was one of those books that even if you were happily secure in your career it wouldn't hurt to have lying around, because odds are you may need it, or, someone you know might. I am, however, straight out of graduate school ready to put my foot in the working world, so this book could not have been more timely or right on the mark. I have read a lot of things of finding, nailing, and keeping the right job... I signed up for websites that were designated to help me... and I've even been to career fairs- but nothing I've experienced yet was as informational, well put together, or helpful as this book.

It covers the entire gauntlet of job finding, from where and how to get a job, interviewing, and even how to make long-tern employment more manageable. No one (not many, at least) want to be unemployed, they just don't know how to go about getting where they want to be- whether they lack the skills, determination, know-how, this book can help. For example, though I do consider myself a "people person" interview situations freeze me and I find myself panicking at even the thought of sitting before panel of people proposing to them why I'm the best person for a job, when I'm not even convinced myself, BUT this book gave HUGE interview tips and tools that I know will positively effect me and I already feel more confident.

Get this book and read it... and if you land that dream job and don't need it anymore, pass it on to someone who might!
