Overview

Logan Rettino never imagined she'd fall so far. Dropped by her ex on national TV, she's gone from prima ballerina to ring card girl, reduced to revving up the crowds before MMA bouts. However distasteful she finds her new job, it pays well...and she needs the money if she's ever going to rebuild her life. Promised a huge bonus if she can convince a brooding, gifted welterweight to keep fighting, she'll do whatever it takes to earn his trust.

Keane O'Shea is unbeatable in the octagon. A former marine, he fights with a ruthlessness no gym jockey can match. He knows his brutal strength is too much for the delicate ex-ballerina, regardless of how fascinating he finds Logan's tight dancer's body. But one private performance and he's drawn to her in a way he can't—or won't—resist.

As Logan discovers the heartbreaking truth that lies beneath this handsome warrior's rage, she'll need to forfeit everything she thought mattered for the one thing that matters the most: saving Keane from himself.

My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ (solid!) Working as an octagon ring

    My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ (solid!)

Working as an octagon ring card girl for MMA fights, was not exactly what Logan Rettino had spent her life training for. But when her ex-fiancé dropped her on national TV, right at the pinnacle of her dancing career, and irreparably damaged her ankle, ballet no longer was her future......and neither was the fiancé. He took off with her understudy, her money and a career in tatters. Determined to get back on her feet, Logan found a way to make good money, but she doesn't have to like it! If only she could convince that dark and dangerous fighter O'Shea to come fight for her boss, or she might lose her job.

Regardless of his success as an MMA fighter, Ex-Marine, Keane O'Shea no longer finds any pleasure in the octagon. Haunted by his experiences while on active duty and a personal loss he hasn't been able to process yet, he finds different ways to numb himself from feeling anything at all. When the 'luscious' ex-ballerina turned ring girl approaches him for a favour, his initial reaction is to turn her down. But when she persists with a passion and he gets an idea of her motivation, he allows himself to be swayed, especially when she offers to over see his preparation. Keane keeps telling himself he has to steer clear of her, but somehow it's not working.

Finding themselves in close quarters for almost 24 hours a day, doesn't do much for keeping their distance, especially with the sexual desire turning the air thick. And their physical distance isn't the only thing they can't seem to keep, emotionally they are slowly becoming involved as well. Even though Keane continues to push Logan away at any sign of emotional display and especially when she pokes to closely to the source of his nightmares, he can't help but respond in an instinctively protective and possessive manner when anything threatens Logan. The 'business with benefits' arrangement they have going on is slipping out of its boundaries.....

    *******

What a debut!!!! A rock-solid FOUR stars!! AND... I am thrilled to know there will be more where this came from!!  A standalone novel with a back story in the MMA octagon, that looks like the start of a series against the same backdrop. Exciting!!

Michele's writing is smooth and sure, the plot perhaps a little predictable, but her characters interesting and well fleshed out, and oh so attractive!! What really adds depth and interest to this story is the different personal losses suffered by both Logan and Keane. Another is the careful suggestions attention with respect to PTSD, a condition prevalent in many veterans which still does not receive proper attention and follow up.

Keane tries hard to avoid feeling, tries hard to avoid any connections. He doesn't want to hurt anyone and is sure he will. Intent on punishing himself he does not feel worthy of kindness or love and responds by pushing it away. Only his good friend and now Logan seem unwilling to be pushed far or for long and see the wounded person he is attempting to hide.

Logan has had her love, her pride and her entire life stripped from her, but she is tenacious. Not willing to break under the onslaught, she carries her head high, while the knocks keep piling up. She even manages to find some enjoyment in her new job, but the payback she wants on her ex is always on her mind. Through her involvement with and feelings for Keane, she becomes more invested in his well-being than her own need for retribution.

Logan cracks me up when she 'swears'.........

    "Bleeding leotards!!"

    "Crinkle my camisole!"

A fantastic first book by a writer I definitely want to read more of! Very well-written and utterly absorbing, the story is one that will appeal to those who enjoy strong and determined heroines who will not take "no" for an answer, and good looking, dominating and dark damaged heroes, who are softer than they would like to think. And Michele Mannon knows her way around a sex scene, of course, some window-fogging hot nooky is ALWAYS a plus!!

¿A stormy, sultry and scalding start to a hot new series!!¿

Few characters stay with me after I close the book. Keane and Logan join the ranks of those characters. Ms. Mannon uses deep POV taking us right to their most vulnerable thoughts. Boom-yay's name being chanted can be imagined and you feel like you went to a fight after reading those scenes. As for the love story, hold onto your hats cause it is fast, hot and steamy (which for me was good).
I can't say enough about this debut book. It is an amazing read which I am thrilled to have read. I rooted for Keane to win his fights, I laughed at all of Logan's invented curses and her determination to stick by her man, and I just loved following their love story. It lives up to the series title Worth the Fight.

    Hmmm

I'm sorry but I can't take a grown woman who uses phrases such as 'twist my tutu' or 'leaping leotards' or 'crinkle my camisole' seriously. It was my biggest pet peeve readkng this book. Every time it happened (and it happened a lot) it was so ridiculous I wanted.to throw my nook against a wall.

    Knock Knock Pt 1

I had just heard about a legend. This legend was a prophecy. And it said a band of ponies would find a castle far out. I knew that it wasn't about me this time. I still remain in my house thinking about it. I got up from bed to concentrate. At that very moment the phone rang. I picked up and listenend. "You will have to find me." 7000 years ago. *Knocking on the door* "Sir our archers have failed." A messenger said. "They haven't met my little friend." The king said. The king hid behind his chair and pulled down a lever. He watched glowing red eyes come out. This was his minotaur. A bull with the body of the human and head of bull. Then all the sudden everything froze to ice.

2 stars - not my taste

    First Impression...

I was fascinated with the cover. It drew me in and then I read the premise. It sounds so good, a ballerina and a fighter. I really wanted to read it.

    The Characters...

Logan. I just don't like her. Why?

    "Twist my tutu"

    "Crinkle my camisole"

    "Bleeding leotards"

I could go on and on....

Her internal dialogue drove me crazy. Who talks like that? I get that she's a ballerina but I just couldn't take it.

She's too slow on the uptake for me. She's asking a guy she hardly knows to fight without understanding how brutal they are. She figures out that he has an issue with fighting but the money she will make keeps her encouraging him to do it. Even her guilt over finally seeing first hand how brutal they are doesn't stop her. She knows he's a formal marine but seems shocked when PTSD comes into the picture. I don't think I could be friends with someone like that.

As for Keane, I really like his name. I feel bad for him. He's tortured and is trying to hid his pain with women and booze. But even though I get him, he's pretty hard to take. He's mean and grumpy. He hardly ever talks. The only way we learn about him is when the story is from his POV. It's hard to believe that Logan developed feeling for him. He does have a gentle side when he's intimate with her but that's the only time it's seen.

    The Story...

The story felt scattered to me. Pieces were thrown in as needed and not blended well. It was jarring.

Then there were the things I just wasn't buying, like the way Logan's ex acted. He dropped her on a reality show during a dance, ending her career. He claimed it was her too big boobs that threw him off. Really? It gets so out of hand with the press and the reality show plus some ballet he's doing - I was like, right sure. There was even paparazzi following Logan around wanting comments about what her lying, cheating ex had said recently. I actually think the press would be on Logan's side and not the jerk that dropped her. Not buying it.

And speaking of Logan's boobs, I never want to hear about her t*ts again. I dislike that word and it's used so much in this book. I could understand it when it was Keane's POV but it was everywhere. Just didn't like it.

    The Writing...

This is a debut book and it shows. I struggled many times with little inconsistencies. All were just little things but that kind of thing bugs me. I think this one needed some additional editing.

    In The End...

Unfortunately, I not only put this book down but had to force myself to pick it back up. The only reason I did was because I wanted to know if I was right about a few things - I was. I just can't recommend this to anyone. I didn't even care for the swoons. They were jarring and unsettling. You may disagree and like this book. This is only my experience with it.

This was a fun story and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

MMA fighter, Keane O'Shea, has a lot of demons. He's battling so much and deserves so little... or so he thinks. He doesn't do relationships. He doesn't do sleep overs. He certainly doesn't care about anyone or anything. If he's not fighting, he's self medicating. He's on a downward spiral and he'll be darned if anyone will interfere.

Until he meets Logan, who just won't leave him alone. Logan, who he can't curb his feelings for. Who is so beautiful and sexy, without even trying. Who makes his heart beat faster.

Logan Rettino was once a prima ballerina, but a broken ankle and public humiliation have since turned her life into a joke. Now she's a card girl for the MMA fights. Well she was, until her boss fired her. And he refuses to change his mind unless she can get Keane O'Shea to continue fighting. Short on money and time, she's out to get Keane's help and nothing is going to stop her.

I loved these two. They are both a little broken and lost. It's a fun story full of growth and learning. Two characters who love each other but can't seem to find their way.

It's nearly impossible to review this book without giving too much away, so I will just say that it's a refreshing take on the recent alpha male books. Simple. Sweet at times and gritty at others.

    Definitely worth the $3.99 though

This one really surprised me. After reading reviews, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to get into it, but I totally was. I actually really like this book. I loved Logan. She was funny and witty and I just loved her. Keane. Well, he was a moody, angry bastard and stayed that way the whole darn time. Somehow it worked for me, though. I love that she pushed through and was a heck of a ring girl. The only thing keeping me from rating this higher was the ending. All of a sudden, it's like the lightbulb goes off and he loves her. Umm, no buddy. Now, you gotta work for it.

    Great read though!
