I approached this book with trepidation. I'm married with three kids so it wasn't for me but for my sister. She's single, 39, attractive and LOVES my kids. I know she wants kids of her own but she just broke up with her boyfriend and seems resigned to forever being the 'favorite aunt.' I bought this book because I know she would make the best mother, even (much) better than me. I had to read it before I gave it to her because I had to make sure it wouldn't make her feel as if she couldn't get a man. That's not what I wanted to communicate! Imagine my delight as I read every chapter spilling details of women just like her (and me!) who were intelligent and loving women who wanted kids! Just that some of them didn't want to grab just any man who happened to come along. Romantic love was one thing. Loving their kids was another. These women decided the first didn't have to come before the second. I love my husband and I'm glad I never had to make these kinds of decisions. But after reading Louise Sloan's book I think the time has never been more appropriate for a book like this! I'm giving it to my sister for her birthday and I hope she decides to 'knock herself up!' There might be a lucky baby in her future!

I have every single SMC book and really love this one. Its almost written as if it were a conversation with a friend. It's just easy to read, has lots of insight and some humor as well. Has a more hip and young 'tempo' to it than some of the other subject books. Highly recommend this!

This book is an excellent resource for any woman considering becoming a single mother and is written with grace and humor. It is more than just a guide book to becoming a single mother though, it is the story of the deep love and affection that can be had in a single mother family.
