    Best Pocket Guides Out There. I travel a ton and I stumbled on this book on a trip to NYC. Having maps by neighborhood is much easier and the fact that the book is small and light is a key for me when traveling. My husband and I used it extensively and had a fabulous trip. I now buy them for all cities I visit if available. Unfortunately they do not get get updated as much as I would like. Regardless of the travel book you buy make sure you get a current subway map when you visit. I find that the NYC subway can vary month to month with all the repairs and upgrades that are happening. The ice cream shop in Chinatown that we found through this book was quite a gem. The restaurant selections are top notch.

    Solid guide

    I foudn the NYC guide a little too much. Although it worked fine and was very helpful - it was not as practical as I would have wanted. I still had to ask for directions and "best way to..." most of the time. NYC may be too big a city for a small guide....and this guide already had waaay too much small print to be a "practical" guide.

    Overall it still was great to puruse over coffee and to get ideas from.

    This guide was not as helpful as the D.C. guide which covers all the museums in-depth. It may also be because one visits NYC for totally different reasons than one would visit D.C.

    Good Small Map Resource

    I used this recently and found it to be a small, convenient resource for getting around New York City. It was much nicer then trying to unfold large, tourist type maps I had used on previous trips. Unlike bulky books that try to tell you everything there is to know, this one focuses mainly on the maps of each section of New York. It fit easily in my medium sized purse or a large pocket in my jacket. It was easy to use and well organized. Although the maps were great, some of the information wasn't quite up to date; i.e., it said you could still tour the NY Stock Exchange which has been closed to the public for quite a while. I wouldn't depend on it for deciding where to eat or which attractions to see. All-in-all, I would recommend this book to anyone touring NY and I'm glad I had it while I was there.
