For this sort of salvaged old out-of-copyright text, this book has much clearer illustrations than the usual. In some ways the drawings are more clear than modern books done with photographs. The nomenclature is somewhat antiquated but considering the nautical heritage of much of this art, understandable. I found much made clear that others glossed over because they were writing for the midshipman or other semi - trained person. A valuable selection. The famous Ashley Book of Knots could have you working a new knot every day for the next ten years. I hardly want to plow through all that, so a selection is useful. The parts on mats and hammocks were particularly good because not just "a knot" but making something of it.
