Meet the Author

Evelyn Rothstein has been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and an educational consultant for many years. She has her doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University in Psycholinguistics, with her Masters Degree in Speech and Audiology and a Bachelors Degree in Education, both from The City University of New York.

In her life as a consultant, she has had the privilege of making presentations to educators across the United States and in France, Spain, Turkey, and Finland, focusing on the value and importance of language and language instruction as essential to school learning. Her three most recent publications-Writing As Learning, Write for Mathematics, and English Grammar Instruction --That Works (Corwin Press)-have provided teachers with instructional concepts and strategies that can elevate literacy to the highest possible learning levels.

Language is Evelyn's passion and comes from the belief that the role of the school is to give students the tools of learning, of which the major tool is communication. Now, with advent of computer technology, students can have extensive access to language, language research, and direct communication with speakers of other languages through the growing power of simultaneous translations and visualized contact with students of diverse cultures beyond the classroom.
