The author does an excellent job covering lots of background theory on KM. Mentioning who was responsible for developing the theory as well as having some diagrams helps to understand the core of each theory. However, I read the book for practical applications because of the job I now have as a KM Advisor and in this regard the book did not do as well. If you are looking for a textbook to use in an academic environment, I'd recommend this as one. But if you are looking for some down-to-earth practical materials and ideas to use, then I'd recommend looking for a different text.
