Thoroughly revised for its Fifth Edition, this concise textbook is ideal for medical students in internal medicine clinical clerkships. This edition's content reflects current guidelines from the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners on topics necessary for this rotation. Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description: Dr. Torre has edited the fifth edition of one of the great student textbooks and, with the help of the Medical College of Wisconsin, has produced an extremely valuable, concise, and to-the-point review of internal medicine.
Purpose: As stated in the foreword by Dr. Pangaro, "The new Kochar helps students meet the core tenet of professionalism in internal medicine — fulfilling a duty of expertise for each and every patient." This is a most worthy goal, to add to the student's knowledge base and help the student mature professionally. This book does both in an easy to read format.
Audience: Superficially, this is a book for medical students rotating through their internal medicine rotations. More importantly, it is a very worthwhile summary of the major diagnoses in terms that many lay people can easily understand. It is a great tool for nurses and technical staff who frequently must answer patients' questions.
Features: The best features of the book are the very short, one- to two-page summaries of the major diagnoses encountered during a medicine rotation. A companion website of the complete text includes very helpful hyperlinks to other relevant chapters. While there are some black-and-white figures, the relatively small number is consistent with the purpose of the book, which is not to be a comprehensive text. This is also true of the lack of references, which should not be considered a shortcoming as, again, this is not intended to be a comprehensive endeavor. The strong points are the conciseness and the readability.
Assessment: This is one of the top books available for medical students heading into their internal medicine rotations. It is a very easy read, with right-to-the-point information.
