Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joan Elste
The Komodo dragon in the "Super Sized" series of the world's biggest creatures will draw young readers to the book. This lizard easily tops 10 feet in length and is quite impressive in the photographs. Interestingly, these lizards are strong swimmers. Their tongues are forked like snakes, and they have a strong sense of smell to track down their food. All in all, the photographs show off this prehistoric creature quite well. One interesting fact about young lizards is that they climb trees to avoid predators and adult dragons that sometimes will kill and eat them, but after two years of living in trees the young lizards will climb down to live on the ground. Adult dragons are too big and heavy to climb trees. Unlike humans, Komodo dragons swallow chunks of meat whole without chewing it. The glossary and side chart at the end of the book work well and show a few other lizards in comparison to the Komodo dragon.
