Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
Imagine a giant beast able to eat half its body weight in twenty minutes. He is ten feet long and three hundred pounds. One bite from his sixty jagged teeth would infect you with deadly bacteria. All the beast would have to do is stalk you until you drop. This is the Komodo dragon, a monster worthy of its own fairy tale. This book is another title in the "World of Reptiles" series and, while girls will enjoy it, it has boy written all over it. From the detailed description of how it catches its prey, to the graphic picture of the lizards eating a water buffalo carcass, boys will be instantly captivated. One caveat, the book is well written for intermediate readers, but not all the words are easy. Elementary teachers can use the books as a bridge between reading and science, and teachers of remedial reading in upper grades can use it as a high interest read.
