Editorial Reviews

Pennae Fuchs
This book offers basic normal nutrition and diet therapy for the life span in wellness and in a variety of developmental, health, and disease-related situations. The use of charts and the extensive appendix enhances the narrative. This ninth edition revises and updates the 1992 edition. The purpose is to furnish theoretical knowledge and clinical information in a form that will be useful to students in nursing, dietetics, and other allied health professions, many of whom are receiving education and training in an interdisciplinary clinical setting. The book is intended primarily for dietitian students, secondary nursing students (for basic normal nutrition and diet therapy to supplement a medical-surgical nursing texts), and as an auxiliary text for physicians, dentists, child development, and physical education specialists. Numerous illustrations augment the narrative. The references lack a variety of nursing texts, but the book has current information from a good variety of other sources. There is a glossary at the beginning of each chapter. Case studies and clinical comments encourage student review and group discussion. This book provides nursing students with a good basic study of normal nutrition as well as a start in diet therapy. The life span is covered in well and ill situations as well as health maintenance recommendations. Use of illustrations provides a quick reference check that can be used in teaching clients and as a easier review. This book in companion with a nursing care text provides the student and practitioner a reference set useful in planning acute, discharge, and long-term agency or home care.

My major is nutrition and this book was excellent for reviewing and learning new concepts of diet and nutritional therapy. It gives great detail in care and also provides excellent case studies!
