Meet the Author

Bassam Tibi, 1944 in Damaskus geboren, studierte Sozialwissenschaften, Philosophie und Geschichte in Frankfurt/Main und ist heute Professor fuer Internationale Beziehungen an der Universitaet Goettingen sowie seit 1998 Bosch-Forschungsprofessor an der Harvard University. Seit den achtziger Jahren Gastprofessuren und Vortragsreisen, vor allem in Asien und Afrika, sowie Fellowships in den USA (u.a. in Princeton, Berkeley, Washington/DC und Ann Arbor). Zu seinen aktuellen Veroeffentlichungen gehoeren "Im Schatten Allahs" (1994), "Krieg der Zivilisationen" (1995), "Der wahre Imam" (1996), "Pulverfass Nahost" (1997), "Europa ohne Identitaet?" (1998) und "Die Neue Weltunordnung" (1999). Seine (teilweise in Englisch verfassten) Buecher wurden in mehrere Sprachen uebersetzt. 1995 verlieh ihm Bundespraesident Herzog den Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Erster Klasse.

Bassam Tibi, international angesehener Islam-Experte und erfolgreicher Buchautor, lehrt an der Universitaet Goettingen und hat eine Forschungsprofessur in Harvard inne.
