If you didn't pay close attention to American Idol Season 8, you can be forgiven for thinking that Kris Allen came in second to Adam Lambert. After all, Lambert is the one who grabbed all the headlines and magazine covers, while Allen plugged along as the cute, safe alternative to the self-styled glamazon, which was enough for him to take the crown, if not enough to create much excitement. Then again, Kris Allen isn't about excitement, he's about comfort, something that's plainly evident on his immaculate eponymous debut, an album every bit as unexpected as his name. Unhip it may be by design, but at least Kris Allen delivers the goods: it's tuneful and likeable, melodic enough to merit a close listen

It’s a seamless continuation of his “Idol” run, full of gentle songs that he only rarely tries to rough up.

Kris Allen won over fans during Season 8 of American Idol with his boy-next-door charm and all-American looks. In one of the biggest upsets in Idol history, Allen beat out flamboyant, rocker runner-up Adam Lambert for the title. Allen's self-titled debut plays on his wholesome pop-rock strengths and includes the hit single "Live like We're Dying." His crowd-pleasing, acoustic guitar rendition of Kanye West's "Heartless" is included as a bonus track.

Allen's "Idol" fans will recognize his cover version of rap star Kanye West's song "Heartless," which Allen performed on the show and also recorded for the album. Another track, "Red Guitar," predates Allen's "Idol" run and is the only song on the album he wrote on his own.

    Kris Allen Rocks!!

I love Kris Allen. He has such an amazing voice. "Live Like Were Dying" is an amazing song. I wished he would of added "No Boundaries" On his CD! I can't wait to buy it on Tuesday. After listening to the clips this is an amazing CD! Kris Allen's CD is as good as David Archuleta's CD. I can't wait til Kris Allen goes on tour. He is so talented and I am so happy that he won American Idol. I was a fan of Kris allen from the time he sang, "Man In THe Mirror" He is such a great voice. I hope his CD does well.

    Pleasantly Surprised.

I think if anyone gives this less than 3 stars, they have a problem with Kris Allen and/or were rooting for Adam.

I am happy Kris is singing upbeat, uptempo songs and not boring, slow songs like many on David Archuleta's debut album last year.

I personally think this is one of the better Post-Idol Debut Albums I've heard from an American Idol. Song-writing-wise, it is great. Kris co-wrote 9 o the 12 songs, which is quite impressive. Kris Allen is a musician - not just a singer. He plays the guitar, piano, writes his songs, and sings. Granted, I've only heard 30 second snippets of all the songs and I heard him preview 3 of his songs at a Miami Dolphins Tailgate Party, but that gave a good idea of what the songs were going to be like. I think with this album they're showing simplicity is better. Not over-the-top, overproduced stuff. A few of the highlights I heard were, definitely "Written All Over My Face" was the best song I heard. It's fun, almost sassy. I also liked "Can't Stay Away From You", "Before We Come Undone" and "Alright With Me". "Red Guitar" and "Let It Rain" are also nice. The lead single is just OK. And the rest of the album is just OK.

This album doesn't really have a genre - I would put it somewhere near pop-rock. That's why I liked it. Songs like "Alright With Me" and "Red Guitar" sound very fresh from what we hear nowadays, and are very breezy, light songs.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the 30-second snippets I heard. Happy to hear Kris having some style. You can't really judge a song from 30-seconds snippets, but 3 of them that I reviewed, he previewed the full thing at the Miami Tailgate party. And the other ones, happened to be hitting the refrains, so I got a good idea what they sound like. No Idol album is ever perfect or great, but this one is very fun, likable, and well-put together.

I must add, Kris has a sexy voice. :0

    I Also Recommend:

    The BEST CD

This is my new favorite CD! I absolutely LOVE it! I have played it on repeat since I got it. Kris Allen has an amazing voice! I would highly recommend buying this cd. I even have Kris Allen's 'Red Guitar' on my phone as a ring tone. He is just amazing! I am so glad that he won Americal Idol, he deserved it! I love that his music is not hard rock or anything like that. It is soothing and I just love his voice. I would love to see Kris Allen in concert some day. Even the song "Heartless" (which he sang on American Idol) is on this CD as a bonus! I love his version of that song! I was so excited to have it on this CD. Go buy this CD now!! =)

    Yahhh!

I could not wait for this CD to come out! And now that I have it, I've listened to it so many times I've lost count. I'm biased because I love Kris Allen that much, but I really do like the music. I think there's a certain originality to it that is Kris Allen, and I really like that.
I would recommend this CD to anyone who's open to hearing something new and fairly different.

    A fan, but ...

I really enjoy Kris Allen and he was my favorite on American Idol. I do enjoy some of his songs on this CD, esp "Live like you are Dying", but I have to say, I have only listened to it two times... mostly b/c I thought it was a bit boring. Sorry Kris. I really am a fan!

    Disappointing

He left his comfort zone. He was so brilliant on Idol. He should just do accoustic.
