His Bio: Artist Zachary Jay Selig became accustomed to being surrounded by the vast open spaces, an expansive sky, rich colour, and dramatic changes in light during his youth in South Texas and Mexico. In his early years he embraced both colour and light into painting; which he studied beginning at the age of five with a German painter. As he matured into a contemporary painter, he came to realize how great an effect the visual aspects of his childhood and the connection to natural elements had become to him as an artist. ¿Light, colour, and form are reflected through my perception, and then I work to animate on canvas that vision. I feel all elements and their interaction. My work is very much a product of a collage of environments that I source within myself.¿ After studying at The Art Student¿s League in New York, The University of The Americas in Mexico City, Mexico, Parsons School of Design in New York, The New York School of Interior Design, and L¿Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris, he continued his studies in the studios of Mexican painters Pedro Friedeberg and Bridget Bate Tichenor in Mexico. His formative years as an adult painter were surrounded with some of the great Mexican Surrealists of the 20th Century, which also included Lenora Carrington. ¿I was so blessed to have been involved with one of the last nucleus¿s of Surrealism in the world. It was a rarefied relationship of vision.¿ Accepting an invitation to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1975 from the Hemingway family, Selig moved from New York to Sun Valley. Mr. Selig had established the initial marketing and public relations format that launched the late Margaux Hemingway in 1974 into a global celebrity, which was generously reciprocated by the Hemingway family¿s introduction to the magic of Idaho¿s psychic vortexes. He designed clothing for numerous athletes and celebrities, while pursuing intensive Yoga training and psychic development. These early disciplines became the cornerstone of his career in the Meditative Arts. Metaphysics became his primary focus while in Sun Valley; and, his urge for further discovery led him back to one of his favorite tropical paradises - Zihuatenjo, Guerrero, Mexico in 1976. During this particular three-year period in Mexico, Central America, and South America, Selig worked as a healer with a group of Tarascan Indian Nahualli Priests in the Sierra Madre Mountains near Zihuatenejo. He received arduous training from these Indian mystics that eventually led him to channel great creative energies into painting, ¿There was such an intense infusion of light that I literally became that light. The flow of energy at that time was an initiation that became apparent in the channeled works that I began to paint in Peru. I wanted to understand this awakening inside of me and the visions. It was time to research.¿ He later returned to North America immersing himself into the painting of a metaphysical alphabet. He set-up his studio in an old church in the barrio district of Tucson, Arizona in 1980 where he began to paint ¿The Seven Chakras¿ and ¿The Seven Rays¿. He visited many of the Anasazzi sacred archeological sites and came away with a greater understanding of the geometric correlation in Meditative Art. He lived in Ojai, California where he further studied the ancient Hindu concepts of the Chakric System and the Science of Colour at the Krotona Institute, which was established by the Theosophists in the late 19th century. Page 2 Zachary Selig interpreted and assimilated his knowledge of the metaphysical work into two series of paintings ¿The Seven Chakras¿ and ¿The Seven Rays¿, which have been utilized as healing tools both privately and publicly since their creation - from Medicine Men¿s Kivas in the Southwest to workshops in Canyon Ranch Spa in Tucson, Arizona
