About the Author

Karel Jaromír Erben (1811-1870) was a Czech folklorist and poet.

Susan Reynolds has worked at the British Library for 20 years in various roles including Curator of the Czech, Slovak and Lusation Collections.

Geoffrey Chew is Emeritus Professor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London. He has published on the music of Bohemia, Moravia, and Austria, since the 18th century, and on its literary connections in the works of composers such as Dvořák and Janáček. In November 2018 he was awarded a Leoš Janáček Memorial Medal by the Leoš Janáček Foundation for his contribution to Czech music and culture, and especially for Janáček research.
