This is a fabulous collection of some beautiful Hahn songs. Hahn songs have gone into art song oscurity--all except for his two big hits "L'heure exquise" and "Si mes avaient des ailes" (written when Hahn was only 13yo). These songs are refreshingly simplistic and exquisite. In addition to delight melodies, Susan Graham's sumptuous voice makes this CD a must have in your collective. Her interpretation as well the collaborative efforts of Roger Vignoles is wonderfully breaktaking without impeding on the charm of Hahn. Buy it.

Reynaldo Hahn's songs are among the most beautiful of his era, French song of the "Belle Epoque" at its most moving! Susan Graham sings it with great sensitivity to both words and melody - great singing like this makes words and melody one, and involves the listener in the world of the song! And the final song she sings here is as beautiful a love song as can be heard, the lovely "Si mi vers avaient des ailes"! There are other wonderful recordings of it - the late Arleen Auger's, Vinson Cole - but this is superlative. I've given it as gifts to many friends, who thank me forever! Listen! Listen" Listen!.

Susan Graham is an absolutely delightful mezzo soprano. Regardless of the role, she adapts to it. I could listen to her for hours upon hours and never tire. I will admit to being only a tiny bit prejudiced by the fact that Susie was one of my outstanding 8th grade English students in Midland, TX, a few years ago. It has been pure delight on my part to watch her grow into a beautiful and talented young woman who is well-known in opera circles around the globe. As a former teacher of French also, I find her pronunciation of French beyond reproach!
