Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
With his argumentative father and grandfather, a young boy sails for the first time in a small, wooden boat named La Luna. Out in the waters, the trio waits for the moon to rise, and then their work begins. The boy climbs up the ladder to the sky to set anchor to the moon. On the moon, the boy discovers glowing stars scattered on its surface. Once his father and grandfather meet the boy on the moon, the three of them begin to sweep the stars. There's some disagreement between the father and grandfather on how to best sweep the stars. Suddenly, a gigantic star lands in a crater and they must decide what to do with it. When they return to their boat to leave for home, the grandfather, father, son, and reader see the results of their work. The illustrations show the young boy's expressions of wonderment and amazement. The shades of blue support and highlight the yellow glow of the stars in the pictures. This story is based on the short film with the same title. Children may enjoy the imagination of this story. This book may work with other moon stories like Carle's Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me.
