All Music Guide - Bryan Buss
Broadway star Sarah Brightman lends her ethereal, angelic vocals to another combination of classical and pop, resulting in a solid, stirring collection. This outing, the ex-Mrs. Andrew Lloyd Webber adapts Rachmaninov "How Fare This Spot", Beethoven "Figlio Perduto", and Handel "Solo Con Te" alongside the brothers Gibb and Simon and Garfunkel. The uncanny thing is how canny Brightman is at bridging the contemporary with the classics so that they seem timeless. She brings touches of adult contemporary, rock, and even, surprisingly enough, techno to the mix; some of these songs, "Here With Me" in particular, are crying out to be remixed as dance songs. Her crystalline soprano leads you on a sentimental journey through "Scarborough Fair" then lilts through a playful "Hijo de la Luna" without missing a beat. Especially successful is the last track, "First of May," as it was recorded live in South Africa. It shows that Brightman's talent doesn't need the production so many contemporary vocalists need to sound phenomenal. There is something melancholy in her expressive voice and in the production of each song on this album, so that even if you don't understand the language of the lyrics, you're left feeling a bit nostalgic, and the effect is not that of much of the plastic A/C market but one of genuine emotion. She doesn't manipulate you into feeling; she actually moves you. Overall, this album achieves some beautiful highs without being over the top.

    A reviewer

I'm one of Sarah Brightman's biggest fans. The DVD of the LaLuna concert is my favorite of the DVD's. The CD of the concert does not track the same songs and because of this I am very disappointed. Where is Nessun Dorma, the Phantom suite, etc. When you buy the La Luna CD you trust that the songs in the concert DVD will be on the CD. This is not the case here at all. I'm sorry but this CD is a disappointment all around.

The music in this CD captures the soul in a whirlwind of angelic vocals. A perfectly orchestrated masterpiece.

    Incredible!

I watched La Luna on DVD, and it was absolutely breathtaking. I only watched it because I knew Josh Groban would be on it, and I ended up becoming a big fan of Sarah's. She absolutely SHINES!!!

Beautiful and haunting as the moon!

Wow! After listening to the gorgeous Eden, and the lush Timeless, I never thought Sarah could get any better! The songs in this album are absolutely beautiful. Sarah's voice flies from opera to pop and back, all seamlessly and beautifully. Scarborough Fair is now my mother's ultimate favorite, and she plays it whenever she has a chance. Hijo de la Luna is another wonderful piece; it's playful with that Spanish zest. La Luna, the title track, is dreamy and soothing. Notable mentions include Figlio Perduto, which quite literally means son of the moon. It builds it with mounting power and ending with a strong chorus. Another great one is Gloomy Sunday, a jazzy piece that is extremely moody and doubly haunting. Winter in July is my dad's favorite. If you don't own this CD, you do not know what you are missing.

    I love this CD

I became of fan of Sarah's in the late 1980's when I heard her sweet voice on Andrew Lloyd Webber's highlight CD before I even saw ''Phantom of the Opera''. Then of course I heard her again when she sang ''A Time to Say Goodbye'' This CD is absolutley fabulous. I love the song ''Winter in July'' I could listen to it a 100 times in a row and get excited chills each time I hear it. I would love to see her live again in her own show. This CD along with Eden would be an incredible addition to your collection.

    Ms Brightman, my mentor

Sarah Brightman is a goddess of the music industry. This album is by far the best I've heard yet; from the beautiful ''How Fair This Place'' to the haunting ''Gloomy Sunday''.

Now I know what an angel sounds like

Someday when I cross over from this world and I hear an angel singing, the voice will be Sarah Brightman--or at least now I have finally heard the voice that matches the idea I've always had in my mind of what an angel sounds like...haunting, beautiful, words flowing from her more smoothly than one can imagine, but with more depth than an ocean, as old as Atlantis, and yet as fresh as a early morning in the mists of the forest. All this was discovered quite by accident strolling through a bookstore and the angelic strains of ''Scarborough Fair'' came drifting down from speakers above like a tropical mist on a parched cultural spirit. I had honestly never noticed nor appreciated Sarah Brightman before that moment, but as her voice penetrated my soul, I had to know more, to hear more, and within three minutes I had her CD in my hands. This is the first time in my life a singer caused such an impulse. I was not disappointed with the rest of the CD. Her range, versatility, and celestial orchestral support insure that I will never tire of her voice. She is the sound I want in the soundtrack of my life. She is an ocean and I have been swept away. Since then I have purchased everything I can get my hands on by Sarah Brightman and cannot wait for ''Classics'' to be release Nov. 20.

    Voice like fine wine

Sarah's voice has become even more delectable since I first time heard her ten years ago. And just like fine wine Sarah is either an acquired taste or something that you have always loved ever since the first moment you heard her sing. She is a woman who cannot be categorized. I do recommend this album, especially to those who enjoyed her sing ''Time to Say Goodbye''. The strength and sweetness of her voice is like no other, that sounds the same if not better in concert.

    New Fan

I got the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, then got her soundtrack to see how she sang outside of that. I loved La Luna, and will probably work my way to other albums by her.

    Excellent!

This is a superb album and Sarah sounds just beautiful. Her voice sweeps over the first rate music beautifully without sounding trite or boring. The best songs are the title track, her rendition of ''A Whiter Shade of Pale'', ''He Doesn't See Me'' and ''How Fair This Place''. This is an excellent album and a recommended purchase that will make a fine addition to any music collection.

    La Luna is awesome

I got hooked on Sarah's voice when I was watching TV one day. I was flipping through the channels when I heard this melodious sound. Well I stopped there and watched her entire One Night In Eden concert. I knew I had to get her CD's. La Luna is by far the best one. The songs are magnificent and haunting. Even my little sister listens to her. Sarah's voice is quite enchanting and it's a shame she's not in the media spotlight as much as other artists. Her contemporary songs are beautiful, but the classics are by far the best. Can't wait to get her other albums.

    Sarah's best album to date

I have all of her albums, own both copies of La Luna, U.S. and Import. Saw her in concert at the Ice Palace in Tampa, Performing this concert. She is Awesome, I enjoy all the songs but my favorite is how fair this place and gloomy Sunday.

    Lovely!

I received this CD for Christmas and absolutely love it. I first heard Ms. Brightman when I saw Phantom at the theatre, then recently I saw her Key Arena performance on the local PBS station (a pledge drive) and was captivated by her voice and the songs. I immediately put her La Luna CD on my Christmas wish list. I believe I've listened to it at least 8 times all the way through since I got it. It's a joy to listen to. I also received Eden, but only like a few of the tracks.

    The voice of an angel...

Having recently watched Sarah perform her new album in concert all I can say is that she is truly enchanting. ''La Luna'' is beautiful from start to finish and a successful follow-up to ''Eden.'' Her mix of pop and opera mix beautifully. If her recorded voice gives you goosebumps, you should listen to her live!!
