Meet the Author

CD Hussey has been writing for as long as words came from the end of her pencil instead of just scribbles. In her grandmother's basement, CD and her sisters would spend hours writing romance stories and having Barbie and her friends act them out. She wrote her first full length novel at 12, rewrote it at 16, rewrote it again at 25, and then put it on the shelf and started a new series. When not writing, CD Hussey enjoys a career as a professional engineer in the Midwest. A chronic hobbyist, CD's interests range from mountain biking to belly dancing, and include everything in between. Currently, CD's obsession is aerial silks, but past obsessions have included fire poi and hula hoop. CD calls these the "burning man" hobbies, and hopes to infuse her writing with some of the fun and unique creativity found in the desert festival.La Luxure is the first released book in a series of separate but related Romantica "light" novels set within the Human Vampire community in New Orleans. Besides exploring the world of Human Vampires, CD also enjoys writing fantasy romance. Favorite authors include JR Ward, Terry Brooks, and David Eddings.

This is the first in Hussey's Human Vampire series. The setting is New Orleans for a brutal murder, a Goth-like bar and vampire sub-culture in this steamy romance. Hussey's characters are so genuine and authentic it is almost like watching a live performance. Julia, the female lead, is a witty 29 year old civil engineer and "token vagina" in the male dominated field attending a conference in New Orleans. She likes "her romance novels to be a little edgier, with leather clad, tattooed vampires that had drug problems, or were once sex slaves. The occasional werewolf was nice, or angst-y warlock, especially a tormented, sorcerer werewolf. She'd put away the historical novels years ago in favor of darker, rawer, urban fantasies." (Hmm, sounds like someone you know? {smile}.) Julia thinks she is a "boring, nerdy engineer" and Armand is a "super sexy vampire". Armand, the male lead, is owner of La Luxure ("Lust" for those who don't know French), a Gothy vampire sub-culture bar, and one of the leaders in the Sang Community in New Orleans. He is inexplicably drawn to Julia the minute she comes in his bar. After he talks with her for a while, he actually finds himself falling for her. This is a great story with a twist many won't see coming and a hot, hot, hot dream sequence, a shower scene which is well... steamy {grin} and the scene on the couch - ooh, la la! Paranormal romance and vampire romance genre fans should put this on their wish list. Warning Spoiler Alert!!! This does have a HEA ending. While this is a paranormal romance, it is not supernatural. Confused? That's ok, read it and you'll see what I mean.

Over 500 pages of pure bliss. Wonderful unique storyline. I definately will be reading more of this author's work. Though it appears to be a series, this book was a complete story with an ending. Which I truly appreciate. I detest the cliffhanging, buy the next book, carrot on a stick endings. A stand alone book, with a true ending, in a series expanding on other characters gets my money every time. Thank you for a great introduction to your writing and a wonderful book showcasing a whole new world. I'm off to buy everything else I can find by this author.

I truly enjoyed this book from the first page to the last. As a long time fan of paranormal romances, I was just as surprised as Julia that this is definitely not your typical vampire love story but I wasn't disappointed in the least. I can't wait to read the rest of this series! My only criticism is that there where a few typos that were missed in the final proofreading, but it wasn't painful and it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the story

Certainingly very fascinating and very intrigying. I truly believe at first that it was a real vampire with all the human knowledge of vamprism that is known only at the end that it is extablish that it is aa make belive vmapire life. It is certainly different from other authors depiction of the real vampires life. Enjoyed this book alot and look forward in reading more of this authors books in the near future. Thanks.

I finished this on the plane down to NOLA, and thought it was a great way to start my trip. Lots of twists to the plot, a main character I could relate to, and just enough hotness to make it spicy. I'm looking forward to book #2 in the series.

Wow... The book was awesome. I loved Armand from the beginning..When i first started reading it i was like ok... where is this book going to go, what direction is it going to take.. I felt for Julia.. And Claire seemed like an awesome sister and friend.. the more i read it the more i fell for the New Orleans scene.. I could picture the back drop of the story as if i was there with Julia.. When the story took the turn near the end i was blown away.. I was definitely thinking along the lines with Julia.. I don't want to give the ending away but wow that was so unexpected.. i am glad they were together at the end. I would recommend this book to my friends to read..

Just finished reading this book. When I first started finding grammatical errors, missing words and misspellings, I was very disappointed and decided this author needs a better publisher. I found the story to be a new take on the vampire craze that's currently in vogue. I have to admit, I'm hooked on the vamp stories, too. I like the stories that have a lot of reality to them, and the story of Julia and Armand was extremely realistic. No "magic", no fantasy, no violence and death to speak of. I was quite shocked to find that I'd been reading of a subculture that exists, and that Armand and his friends were not vampires. I mean, I've heard about it and read about it, but never really paid any attention to it. My jaw practically dropped to the floor when Julia (and I) discovered they weren't vampires. I hope CD Hussey continues to improve his/her writing skills and writes a lot more of these stories. Sure there was some fluff, and hopefully this writer can continue to improve his/her skills to give the stories a little more depth and action, and better punctuation, but this story is one heck of a good start on the writer's career. I immediately looked for another book - where are they?

I was disappointed because I was expecting a paranormal romance. It was an interesting story though. Certainly non-typical.
