Brutal crime story - strong characters, good plot

Ellroy wrote a good solid crime book here. The characters come alive in a tortured web of violence and illusion. Ellroy has a good feel for LAPD and the weird people of LA. Worth reading but not for the faint hearted.

    Yuck

I couldn't get past the first page. The writer seems to have a very limited vocabulary...A truly good author can articulate without the 4 letter street jargon. I didn't know I could review an exerpt, which would have saved me $15...expensive lesson. I won't even attempt to read this 'author' again.
