Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Erika Clark
"Pito Pito Colorito, ?donde vas tan tempranito? A la acera verdadera. ?Pim, pom, fuera! Pito Pito Colorito, ?donde vas tan tempranito? De la casa a la escuela. ?Pim, pom, fuera!" Readers have a fun way to learn playful Spanish songs that originated from Mexico, Spain, and various countries in Latin America. Examples of traditional songs are La Cucaracha, which was written during the Mexican Revolution as a way to mock the enemy soldiers, and Caballito Blanco, which is a well-known Chilean song. Some songs are about traditional foods, such as torticas de manteca, while some lullabies help parents put their young children to sleep. To appeal to readers' multiple interests and talents, this book includes musical notes of the songs so readers can play and/or sing the songs that are presented in the book. Sebastian tops each song off with corresponding pictures that show children joyfully playing, cheerfully singing, peacefully resting, or in the arms of their parents, which adds to the importance of family and community in the Mexican culture.
