CriticasLovers of biblical stories and radionovelas ("radio soap operas")will enjoy this version of best-selling author Coelho's classic tale. In a soothing tone and soft Caribbean accent, the narrator describes prophet Elijah's adventures as he obeys God's orders, saves Israel from a malign, heretic queen, and faces God's anger. But when it comes to the dialogs in the book, the narration becomes distracting. A handful of voices speak for the different characters: angels, priests, warriors, women, kids, God, Elijah. The quality of the recording is impeccable-especially the sound effects and background musicDbut a neutral accent would have been a better choice for the characters, especially for Elijah and God. Moreover, the actors' exaggerated crying and desperate screams sound more like they belong in a telenovela than a biblical story. Coelho fans and genre lovers will enjoy this entertaining and accurate reading of the author's respectful vision of this biblical passage.
