Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
«Ismael Márquez succeeds in bringing together a thorough understanding of Peruvian social and cultural history of recent decades with the skills of an insightful analyst of narrative texts. His 'La retórica de la violencia en tres novelas peruanas' offers readings of novels by three of Peru's most significant writers: José María Arguedas, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, and Mario Vargas Llosa. While each novel's distinctive textual character is respected, the three readings are coordinated to reveal how all three novelists draw upon the rhetorical powers of fiction in an effort to elaborate a coherent account of the violence that has been such a prominent feature of Peruvian society.» (Naomi Lindstrom, University of Texas at Austin)
