    Una novela historica fascinante

The reading of La Venganza de Quetzalcóatl by David W. Keck is a promise to a rewarding experience. The plot, presented with literary talent clearly develops the historical accounts of the conquest of Mexico with no deviations. The descriptions of the costumes, the religious rituals, the market, the battlefields, the meetings of emperor Moctezuma II with Hernan Cortes, the relationship between Cortes and doña Marina, la Malinche, who came to the Spaniards¿ side as an interpreter and adviser as well as Cortes¿ mistress; the City of Tenochtitlan, which amazed the Spaniards as they saw it for the first time for its architecture, organization, and particularly for its cleanliness and pleasant aromas which are all accurate according to written history. The reader visits the ancient world of the Aztecs with realism, smelling the dust from the battlefields as it rises from the pages, the walls painted with blood in the temple, the winds of change shaking the hegemony of the Empire. Despite all this, the reader never feels the author trying to interfere with the true history, not even in the dialogues of the different characters, which are precise and well dosed, allowing the historical facts to evolve on their own. There are no superfluous descriptions; they are in their precise dimensions. Fictitious characters like Mázatl and Miquiztli, two teenagers demonstrate that they are ready to become guerreros águilas (eagle warriors) at the age of fifteen give a welcome excitement to the adventure.
