Mothers-to-be will be held spellbound, but fans of spiritual memoir and insider health-care accounts will learn a thing or two as well.

I completely enjoyed reading this. In the spirit of Peggy Vincent's Baby Catcher, Cara gives us the unique perspective of what life is like for a homebirth midwife. She helps to normalize the birth process (women's bodies aren't broken), and exposes the truth that homebirth is indeed as safe or safer than a hospital birth for low-risk moms, through the telling of birth stories and her experiences. My first 3 children were born in hospitals, and my last two blissfully at home, with the last one born blue and not breathing, and had to be recussitated. I do not regret having him at home at all, scary as it was at the time. My midwife is a wonderfully skilled woman, like Cara evidently is also. We need more of them in this country and more books like this!! A must-read for anyone having or wanting to have a baby.
