Born in Denmark, Sophie Barnes spent her youth traveling with her parents to wonderful places all around the world. She's lived in five different countries, on three different continents, and speaks Danish, English, French, Spanish, and Romanian. But, most impressive of all, she's been married to the same man three times—in three different countries and in three different dresses.

When she's not busy dreaming up her next romance novel, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, cooking, gardening, watching romantic comedies and, of course, reading.

This was a very enjoyable action filled romance. Having read Sophie Barnes' last book, I was very much looking forward to this book, which not only met, but exceeded all my expectations. The story line was great (as with her last book) and packed with action and romance in equally satisfying amounts. This is the first book in the Summersby series, which looks like it will be a fantastic saga. It was a page turner for me. I highly recommend it.

I really ought to give up trying to find other Regency Romances that will measure up to Georgette Heyer's, which I tend to hold as the standard for the genre. These days, I know not to expect that they will be the clean reads that Heyer's books were, but I always hold out hope that they will have the detail, plot, and wit that make Heyer's stories stand out. Sadly for me, Lady Alexandra's Excellent Adventure falls short both as a work of Historical Fiction and a Romance. The storyline and the events around it (and frequently, the people's reactions to said events) are so absolutely ridiculous and implausible that I found myself rolling my eyes almost constantly. Barnes tries to capture some of the language of the time but includes little else that makes you feel as if this is supposed to be set in the Regency period. Honestly, it's a modern story that is trying to masquerade as a Regency Romance. On occasion, there is some witty banter between the characters, but I didn't find that it made up for the rest of the book. Once I hit the halfway point, I skimmed most of the rest of the story to see how it played out. Personally, I think anyone who regularly reads romance (or even someone who doesn't) would not be particularly impressed with that part of the story, either. I didn't find Alexandra's and Michael's relationship to be particularly touching or romantic. Not only that, but after just one day of knowing each other, it is implied that all of these "deep" feelings and emotions are supposed to have surfaced within each of them, causing them to question their own personal opinions of marriage, blah, blah, blah. Seriously? More like deep feelings of lust. At least try to drag out the tension and the budding relationship for a little longer and try to make me feel like Alexandra and Michael are developing true, honest feelings of love for each other. Perhaps if either the storyline or the romance itself had been executed better, I could have bumped up my rating of this book. But as it stands now, I wouldn't recommend Lady Alexandra's Excellent Adventure to anyone looking for Historical Romance/Fiction or any kind of Romance.

I thought Michael was too eager where Alex was concerned! I got why she was the was the way she was, after how she was raised! I did enjoy the ending though, now on to Ryan's story. Ljb

I could not disagree with you more. While I am an avid reader in a wide variety of genres, I checked out your recommended author. Like in the style of Austin, Heyer's weaves an intricate plot. However, that said, Ms. Barnes books are not to be so easily dismissed. She had wonderful stories that use terrific voice. Her characters are approachable rather than stuffy. This is by no means erotica or "smut" as you call it. I have read all of the Summersby books and enjoyed them. Not every book read needs to be for English lit class, but Barnes captures the essence of what it was like to be a/woman during the Regency period, and it was often not pleasant nor were choices available. The women that did stand out did so at their peril. These books are written for today's women. They are historical fiction books that are accessible. Well done Ms. Barnes.

Fun dialogue between all the characters. I always enjoy the "girl with a boys name" plots especially when they make the hero question his sanity/sexuality. Great story, hopefully we will get to hear the brothers' tales next!

I really enjoyed this book! The romance between Michael and Alexandra is compelling. As somewhat of an unconventional lady myself, it was a pleasing love story. I highly anticipate the next book in this series.

I bought this book because I didn't believe the Melissa Bookshelf's angry review. Something was wrong with a reason to post such gathering of the negative sentences under full pretense to look like a big review. Bookshelf's review has nothing to do with Lady Alexandra's Excellent Adventure. The action and romance are really enjoying. Somewhere in the middle of the book I expected the traditional turn: rejected fiance will be seriously wounded and the horror of loosing him will make Alexandra to overcome her fear of being in love . It was the pleasant surprise that Sophie Barnes turned the story differently. I'm going to read the book about William. Regarding the comparison to the Georgette Heyer' books I may say that it is a prejudice. Even if Georgette Heyer was known as the Queen of Regency romance, it doesn't mean that other writers must write alike. Most certainly , I appreciate that Sophie Barnes has her own style.
